Nick hasn't been in the ring since, what, 2015? Still getting beat up though.

Wonder if he can stay off the weed long enough to pass a piss test. Plus don't they do year round testing too?

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Not a lot of interest in seeing Nick Diaz compete considering the last time he won a fight was 7 years ago. I'd like to see him fight Lawler I guess. But no doubt he'll fight Conor.

Welp
UFC®, the world’s premier mixed martial arts organization, and The Walt Disney Company’s new Direct-To-Consumer & International segment along with ESPN, have reached an immersive, multi-year media rights agreement for exclusive live UFC content on ESPN+, as well as across a variety of ESPN’s television, social and digital platforms, in English and Spanish, taking effect in January 2019.

This first-ever rights and distribution agreement between the two companies provides for 15 live UFC events to stream exclusively on ESPN+ -- the recently-launched multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company's Direct-to-Consumer and International segment, in partnership with ESPN. Each event will be branded “UFC on ESPN+ Fight Night” and will deliver a full card of 12 UFC bouts.
ESPN + is also getting the Dana White contender series, all of the UFC library and access to PPV's & Fight Pass for an additional fee

GSP vs Nate Diaz is in the works for UFC 227. Yawn.

I don't get that fight at all, for either guy. Other than a payday. But it does nothing for the rankings, title implications, legacies, etc.

I think Gustaffson vs Rockhold is an interesting fight though.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Yeah, don't think there would be any hype for that fight. They fought once and Nick complained....blah blah....
I'm a Diaz Bros. fan but sometimes ya gotta just say no. I'd watch but it's not a fight I'd pay for.

BLAH! EDIT.... I read that as Nick since last few posts were on Nick.
Now this match makes no sense. Meh.....

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Yair Rodriguez has been cut by the UFC for turning down 2 fights. I'm sure Bellator is in the process of locking him down as we speak. More stupidity on the part of WME if you ask me.

It's a payday and a fight to sell the casuals. Going from fighting the Middleweight champion to fighting an unranked journeyman lightweight who hasn't fought in 2 years is a joke to be honest. GSP murders him any way he chooses.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

I like Yair, but honestly, am OK with the decision to cut him. Sick and tired of fighters cherry picking their opponents, looking for easier matchups, etc. He had ZERO reason to turn down fights with Zabit Magomedshapirov and Ricardo Lamas. Lamas is even ranked higher than him and got KO'd stiff in his last night, what's he afraid of? Hopefully the decision to cut someone of his caliber puts the rest of the roster on notice. You fight who the employer wants you to, or you go fight somewhere else.

Also laughed when I heard Dern missed weight by 8lbs this morning.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

GSP said he doesn't want the Nate fight. Says he wants Khabib. Looks like he's going after 3 belts. I suppose Khabib, Conor, retirement. I don't think Khabib could grapplefuck GSP. I think GSP would probably give him the Koscheck treatment. Either way I really hope it happens.

Gegard Mousasi nearly breaks a sweat beating Carvalho becoming the new Bellator Middleweight Champion, and then (as expected) immediately calls out Rory MacDonald.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Wait, Moose wants Rory to jump up to middleweight?

I could have sworn that when Moose signed with Bellator, he said he was going to be a two division champ at middle and light heavy weight

Still bummed that the UFC let both of these guys walk

Bader is still involved in the Heavyweight Grand Prix, so Mousasi is looking for a big fight substitute. Once Bader is freed up Mousasi will beat him. Hell, maybe Mousasi fights Rory at 170 and ends up with three belts.

Damn, that cut to WW is going to be brutal for him. I think he could beat Rory and Bader though, Mousasi is the most underrated fighter in MMA. Saying it again, absolute travesty the UFC didn't sign him to a new deal.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

I watched the Wonderboy/Till fight last night and was shocked the judges gave a UD to Till. Not only that, but two of the judges scored it 49-46 in favor of Till (that's 4 rounds to 1 for those no familiar with scoring MMA).
It was a close fight, the stats as far as strikes go were similar, and Till did have the knockdown in the 5th, however Wonderboy hit Till with more cleaner shots to the head.

Personally, I would have scored it 48-47 Thompson. Judges should have gone draw, or a 48-47 split for either guy. Not really that upset that Till got the decision, however 49-46 for Till is outrageous.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Its been awhile since the UFC has had a PPV as good on paper as this Saturdays.

My pick's

Robert Whittaker over Yoel Romero
RDA over Colby Covington
Megan Anderson over Holly Holm
Tai Tuivasa over Andrei Arlovski
Mike Jackson over CM Punk
Curtis Blaydes over Alistair Overeem
Mirsad Bektic over Ricardo Lamas
Carla Esparza over Claudia Gadelha
Rashad Evans over Anthony Smith
Joseph Benavidez over Sergio Pettis
Charles Oliveira over Clay Guida

It's quite frankly a joke that Joseph Benavidez vs Sergio Pettis is so low on the card. It should be the co main event directly under the 2 main events.

I've made my peace with CM Punk being on the main card. He'll sell at least 100,000 PPV's to people who otherwise wouldn't have watched.

If Whittaker wins it'll be depressing knowing he could have fought Gegard Mousasi. Bellator has a better Welterweight AND Middleweight champ imo. And when DC retires, maybe even a better LHW champ.

With Lesnar I could understand it as hes a legit physical specimen and people want to see what happens when he gets in the cage. But after that 1st CM Punk fight I think most of those casuals know how this will go.

Wait are you implying that Phil Brooks is a less than legit physical specimen? Because he looks PRETTY intimidating here.
