Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

My picks for the fights I care about on this weekend's card

Holloway
Overeem (honestly 50/50 on this, Ngannou KO'ing Reem wouldn't surprise me in the least)
Pettis
Gaethje
Felder
Teymur (also a 50/50 call, the undefeated Klose is just as good a prospect)

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Reem has always had a suspect chin but its to the point now where a stiff breeze puts him on roller skates. I doubt he survives what Ngannou will throw at him.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Ngannou is gonna fuck Overeem up.

Holloway
Ngannou
Cejudo
Alvarez
Waterson
Oliveira
Oliveira

I wish we could see an Aldo/Holloway trilogy, but I'm not convinced.

If you have been watching TUF, this is no surprise. Hell one fight they were cutting her hair to help her make weight. And very happy to see Roxie get the spot

I believe cutting weight before the biggest event in your life is called "Pulling a Cormier"

From all the stories about Conor coming out the last few days he makes Jon Jones look like a boy scout.

Hmm, maybe...just maybe...she is trying to compete in the wrong weight class. But what do I know.

I am also happy for Roxie.

I've heard this alluded to a couple times now. What are these stories?

Anyone just see that Olivera and Medeiros undercard fight? Holy shit, that is the best fight I have seen in years.

Man, Eddie Alvarez looks like he broke his jaw in R2 but still got the KO in R3.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

that was maybe the best MMA card I've ever seen.

It had everything man. Excitement. Great storylines. Drama. Incredible technique.

Yancy Medeiros vs Alex Oliveira was flat out one of the best fights I've ever seen. A war for the ages.

Charles Oliveira vs Paul Felder was engaging from beginning to end, telling a great story of grappler vs striker.

Eddie Alvarez vs Justin Gaethje delivered on its promise of being an all out war. Eddie had one leg and a broken face and still managed a highlight reel KO.

Ngannou vs Overeem. Fuck man. Ngannou is the scariest dude to ever fight MMA. I think Francis Ngannou probably beats any version of any fighter to ever fight MMA. That KO was terrifying. Joe Rogan commentating that Overeem was still out cold with his toes clinched while not showing it, was chilling.

Holloway vs Aldo. Credit to Jose Aldo. He fought his heart out and didn't give up even after he should have. He fought right to the end. Aldo is still pretty close with Max when it comes to FW GOAT. But the torch was passed tonight, Holloway is well on his way to taking that mantle for good from Aldo.

What a card. The only possible thing that could take it down a notch is Eddie Alvarez's psychopath wife screaming like a hyena for 15 minutes. But she does that everytime.

Tough card to beat. It was a good night to be an MMA fan.

That was like a real-life Rock’em Sock’em Robots KO. All that was missing was that spring sound.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

I think Stipe is the only test out there for Ngannou and I think Ngannou puts him to sleep.

After that I could see Ngannou going on the first real UFC HW title run.

Stipe rematch
Werdum
Black Beast
Mark Hunt
JDS
Rothwell
Cain maybe
Volkov
Magomedov

Rumble (one can dream)

He graveyards all of them.

Sucks that JDS is a shell of his former self. 2011 JDS vs 2017 Ngannou would have been more meaningful than Fedor/Cro Cop.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Man, you're all aboard the Ngannou train eh?

I think he's good and very talented, but we have yet to see his chin tested. Can he take a flush shot from Stipe? Could he deny takedowns and survive on the ground with Werdum?

All legit questions.

Stipe is no chump - he's tough as hell and has cardio for days.

That was definitely one of the best fight cards in a while - had a blast watching it.

Actually, don't want to say best in a while, the pay-per-view with all 3 titles changing hands was amazing as well.

Mark Hunt should be forced into retirement IMO. He pretty much admitted to his brain being scrambled his last fight.

Yeah I am. Most of it is based on what he's shown in the octagon. But also part of it is because I think the HW division is in shambles. Besides Stipe I don't think there's anyone that could give him a fight. I mean, maybe Cain if he ever fights again. He probably couldn't survive on the ground with Werdum, but I don't think Werdum could take him down. Even without a strong wrestling background I think Ngannou is too athletic and strong. I think Ngannou would take Werdum's head off before it ever went to the ground.

Stipe/Ngannou UFC 220.

I wonder if they headline or if Cormier/Volkan get the go ahead.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

I like Ngannou, but have to stick with my boy Stipe. Record breaking 3rd straight defense.

This kinda sucks though, I wanted to watch Rory vs Lima that night but will go with UFC220 and its two title fights.

Also being reported that Rockhold will face Whittaker at UFC221 in Feb...not sure for the official title or if Bobby Knuckles (best nickname ever) is "defending" the interim belt...which would be BS

GSP officially vacated today, Whittaker elevated to undisputed champ and will defend against Rockhold in February
