This card went to shit in a hurry. First JDS fight is off now, Mighty Mouse's fight has been pulled because Borg is sick.

Yea, I don't even think this is worth a bar tab now, much less buying the PPV.

I can attest to the fact that it wasn't worth a bar tab. Dos Anjo's and Cejudo looked like beasts though. The main event was a snoozefest.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Nunes is taking the Woodley and GSP route of playing it safe once they get the belt and start making money. They don't want to run the risk of losing the belt and taking the pay cut so they put on these boring fights that go to a decision.

Jones B sample also tests positive. His career is effectively over.

Did you mean his career is effectively still over, considering he doesn't have a fight of record since the first Cormier fight almost three years?

Not correct, Jones beat OSP in April 2016 (he was supposed to fight Cormier but Cormier pulled out with an injury)

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

I wonder what his next move is. If he can get out of his UFC contract, he can still fight places that will turn a blind eye to whatever ban he gets. Like Rizin, M-1 etc. Maybe even against guys like Phil Davis and King Mo. I'd like to see him keep fighting, even if he is a sociopath.

You're right, that drug test failure was out of competition shortly after that fight so the result stood. He has been suspended so many times the past few years they all run together in my mind.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

yeah that was vicious. The Daley/Larkin fight was great too.

I was pissed at the time it happened, but I'm glad Benson Henderson is gone from the UFC. What a bum that guy has turned into. Every fight he's in is awful.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Cruz vs Rivera should also be a good fight. Glad to finally see Rivera get a name fight, he's paid his dues. 20 fight win streak (yes, I know most of that was against non UFC competition).

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Conor called out Paulie Malignaggi for an MMA fight. If that happens as Conor's next fight I'll stop watching MMA. Conor and WME are fucking up the sport.

I also have no interest in seeing Conor fight Nate Diaz again. Ferguson, Lee, Khabib or they can fuck off.

That was a crazy finish that DJ pulled off. German suplex to armbar that he set up in mid air.

Ferguson is the Lightweight Champ and Conor is the interim champ as far as I'm concerned.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Big fan of El Cucuy, was happy to see him win.

That said, he drops his hands and is hit pretty easily...Conor's elite counterpunching and touch of death left could finally crack that chin.

Of course if Tony plays it safe and doesn't go hard until the later rounds, that's huge for him. Major cardio advantage over Conor.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Someone like Khabib is tailor made to beat Ferg. Strong wrestler, good chin and good sub defense. Now the questions with him are can he stay healthy and can he make weight.

Care to re-state?

"The lack of in vivo techniques to show distinct biomarkers for CTE is the reason CTE cannot currently be diagnosed while a person is alive."

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Not definitive, but he himself is just saying it appears he is showing early signs.
Quote:
However, the 43-year-old, who has spent 20 years as a professional prizefighter, opens the essay by conceding a variety of cognitive and neurological symptoms consistent with the early signs of CTE.

“My body is f---ed but my mind is still here. I’ve still got my senses about me and I know what’s right and wrong, which is the main thing,” wrote Hunt. “Sometimes I don’t sleep well. You can hear me starting to stutter and slur my words. My memory is not that good anymore. I’ll forget something I did yesterday but I can remember the s--- I did years and years ago.”

“That’s just the price I’ve paid – the price of being a fighter,” he continued. “But I’ve fought a lot of drug cheats and copped a lot of punishment from guys who were cheating and that’s not right.”

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Anyone see Mousasi/Shlemenko last night? Mousasi beat him with one eye. It was impressive.

Also, I think its time for Donald Cerrone to head back down to LW.
