Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Robbie needed the stoppage to get the win. He went for it and got it.

Starting with the Matt Brown fight this card has been fucking fantastic.

That was one of the best title fights in quite some time.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

After how great this card has been, and all the hype surrounding this fight, I can see this fight being Mendes laying on top of McGregor for 25 minutes.

All 3 judges had Rory up 3 rounds to 1 over Lawler.

Nice job by Connor but he looked very beatable. Full camp Mendes takes him easily IMO. Connor fought Mendes in the perfect scenario, on short notice.

Good Lord, does Dean get a bonus from Zuffa as well. That was an awfully quick stoppage. Mendes was out of gas and probably going to lose anyway but that was real quick.

Robbie Lawler is a bad muthafucka. True fighter. Would not want to be on his bad side.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Mendes was gassed and was hurt. He was turtled up. I probably would have let the bell ring but he was hurt and turtled. Cant fault Herb on this one.

Awesome co main and main tonight. Good to see Lawler and McDonald go the way it did considering that match was nearly forgotten with all the Also/McGregor hype.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

That was one of the best cards I've ever seen. Honestly. Great fights from top to bottom, including the prelims.

If the UFC put a card together that has Aldo vs McGregor as the main event. Ronda vs Cyborg and the MMA debut of CM Punk, not only would it shatter every MMA PPV record, but every boxing record too. Even Manny/Floyd would be given a run for its money. Yeah I said it.

I'm so happy to be wrong about Conor. Aldo/Conor will be a fucking monster of a fight.

You could add Fedor fighting Brock plus Gina Carano in a nude oil wrestling match with Meisha Tate and that card still isn't sniffing Floyd and Manny numbers.

The two biggest PPV draws in the history of the UFC, Lesnar and GSP, could barley do a million and a half buys when they were on the same card.

That was an insane card. Wow, the Irish crowd. Hate McGregor all you want but he is good for the UFC now. UFC need some star power. Danna White must have came when McGregor won.

This is what the UFC should be. Great card. The two title fights were great. Completely worth the cost of the PPV!

Completely agree...this was actually the first one I purchased since Robbie beat Hendricks.

Very cool.

Also can't wait to see the circus McGregor is going to bring as champ. UFC needs this now even though I was hoping he would lose.

McGregor and Faber are coaching the next season of TUF. They won't fight at the end.

ok so maybe I was a little amped up when I wrote that, I posted it 30 seconds after watching Conor win lol. And 1.6 million buys is hardly "barely 1.5". That said I think it would do way upwards of 2 million and beat most records besides Floyd/Manny. I think Conor is gonna be bigger than Brock if he isn't already and I think a PPV with both Conor and CM Punk on it would bring in 2 completly different audiences. I think Punk brings in a ton of wrestling fans who wouldn't otherwise watch an MMA event. It would make perfect sense to put them both on the same card too, considering January 2nd is by all accounts around the time Punk is hoping to debut. If all the stars align and the UFC hype machine goings into full swing, I think a card like that could do record breaking numbers.

Jake won't get cut. But he needs to retire. I'm a huge fan of his but that was hard to watch.
