That's a bad match for Lyoto. Not sure I would want to go jumping into the cage against a guy like Romero after Rockhold just kicked my ass.

If Yoel has the cardio that fight is gonna look very similar to Weidman - Machida rounds 1-3.

He just died. Partly his own fault too. He refused treatment at the hospital after they found a cyst in his lungs doing an x-ray when he came into the hospital for bronchitis & pneumonia. They tried to put him on a ventilator to help him breathe and he signed a waiver refusing it. He then suffered a collapsed lung, then a heart attack. Just horrible how it all went down.

Did he not realize how bad a shape he was in? Either way thats pretty messed up. If your single and have no dependents I don't have a problem with doing what he did. But when your a father and a husband you're life is no longer just your own to be careless with.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

yeah even though its what I expected to happen, I was still disappointed.

That said I think next Saturday will deliver and then some. Even with the card losing Jones and Khabib its still a sick fucking card. I'm looking forward to almost every fight.

I think we all saw this coming. Frankie is the ultimate point fighter. The only thing that fight did was confirm that Frankie will never ever get another belt in the UFC.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Chris is gonna steamroll him.

I've been lousy at picks lately, but to hell with it, here goes:

Rumble Johnson
Chris Weidman
Donald Cerrone
Joseph Benavidez
John Dodson
Travis Browne
Dong Hyun Kim
Uriah Hall
Colby Covington

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Meh, was rooting for Rumble but DC is just that good. Probably the best #2 in any division. I think he should retire before Jones returns and takes his belt back though.

LHW is a mess. Who gets the shot after Bader?!

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

probably Jon Jones.

Oh and Daniel Cormier is a great Number 2, but I think the best Number 2 in MMA is Chad Mendes.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Yeah, Chad's definitely a stud. But for me what sets DC apart was that he was undefeated at Heavyweight (and is arguably the 2nd best HW in the world). And before Jones he had never lost a single round in MMA. I dont know how far Chad would go at 155.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

I know the competition wasn't up to snuff, but watching Cerrone fight is an absolute treat. That guy just gets after it.

Enjoyed the Rumble/DC fight, wish Rumble had a bit more in the tank, but can't complain with either guy's effort.

Good on Weidman.

Overall really solid card.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Great card.
Always been on the Arlovski wagon. Never got off. Glad to see him get all these wins when he was essentially counted out.

I had a feeling Weidman would win but there was a time there where it looked like Vitor was going to pull an upset. Without that take down who knows what would have happened. Weidman was cut and had taken some shots. I give props to Vitor.

DC is an animal. How do you take shots like that from a guy like "Rumble". You could see a more "fight focused" DC and had he shown up like that in the Jones fight, rather than be an angry, mad fighter, he may have won.

Can "Cowboy" get a shot now, please?

Uriah Hall needs to stay on this track. I like him as a fighter just as long as he can control his personal emotions and self doubt.

Overall this was an awesome card. Wish we had more like this.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

If Cerrone doesn't get a title shot and fights again and wins it'll break a UFC record for most consecutive wins before a title shot. He's currently tied with Jon Fitch at 8 straight wins. Fitch won 8 then got GSP. Assuncao is hovering around that record too with 7 straight.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Yeah, it's pretty disappointing to see guys like him being skipped when he's a fan favorite like he is.
I'm not really sure what Dana is thinking by not already giving the guy a shot.
