I think that was just how these things were handled in the 1970s. If Jimmy Saville or Bill Crosby did something wrong, the organization closed ranks and silenced the critics.
Fortunately the culture changed when people learned just how egregious the behavior Catholic Church was. So all those old crimes are being brought to light.

The quote he was responding to was allegedly spoken in the 1970s.

Penn State to 'commemorate' 50th anniversary of <DEL>child abuse</DEL> Joe Paterno's first game
Fuck this school.
Penn State plans to “commemorate” the 50th anniversary of Joe Paterno’s first game as Nittany Lions head coach.
The news was revealed Thursday in a press release detailing the school’s “themed game days and promotions” for the upcoming season. The recognition for Paterno will take place on Sept. 17 when PSU hosts Temple. The game has also been dubbed “THON and Community Heroes Day” and “Faculty & Staff Day.” No other details were immediately available.
Other than brief glimpses of Paterno in various in-stadium hype videos, this will be the first acknowledgement of the coach by the program in Beaver Stadium since his last game as head coach on Oct. 29, 2011. Paterno, who joined the Penn State staff as an assistant in 1950 and became head coach in 1966, was fired by the university’s board of trustees on Nov. 9, 2011 — just days after the arrest of longtime PSU defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky for child sexual abuse.

It's not like the university needs to be burned to the ground and have the ashes peed on, but they sure do regularly display an amazing lack of self-awareness. Or maybe that is giving them too much credit.

Thing is, they face a huge amount of internal and alumni pro-Joe pressure. Sort of puts them between a rock and a hard place. But you'd hope they'd have chosen the rock that doesn't abuse young boys, rather than the hard place that offers lots of money and support and looks the other way when it comes to those boys.

Sadly, being adopted makes it even more likely he was also a victim of Pedophile the Elder. He learned at the foot of the master.

I'm so glad there's a Penn State in this world, so I can urge my kid to attend college ANYWHERE but there.

Because many men believe they are the Alpha and women do not have the right to say no. Whether it is based on societal, religious, or home life teachings, it is not as uncommon as it should be sadly.
"WTF, I bought her dinner?!?!"
"Fuck, Suck, or Walk Honey"
"Did you see what she was wearing?"
"Dude she was shitfaced and all over me!!!"
Ad nasuem.

It's still infuriating to revisit the details associated with the worst scandal ever. However, it is satisfying to see this university get the negative headline publicity they so richly deserve.

Former Penn State assistant coach Jay Paterno, the son of longtime Nittany Lions football coach Joe Paterno, was elected to the university's board of trustees on Friday.
Jay Paterno, who coached at Penn State from 1995 to 2011 and played quarterback there from 1986 to 1990, received the most votes among three alumni trustees elected to three-year terms. There are nine alumni among the 36 voting trustees.
"Between my mom and dad and my family, we've been connected with Penn State for more than a century, when you add up all the years we've given there," Paterno told ESPN on Friday. "We feel very strongly about the university and what it can be. There are some challenges at Penn State and in higher education around the country, and I thought it was time for me to get involved."
Starting in July, Paterno will have a seat on the Penn State board that fired his father on Nov. 9, 2011, hours after Joe Paterno announced he would retire at the end of his 46th season coaching the Nittany Lions.
The board fired Joe Paterno and then-university president Graham Spanier amid growing outrage over the school's handling of sexual abuse allegations against former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
The Paterno family has disputed Joe Paterno's knowledge of the Sandusky allegations and condemned the findings of the Freeh report, a university-sanctioned investigation by former FBI director Louis Freeh concluding that the late Penn State coach concealed knowledge of Sandusky molesting young boys.

Paterno is dead. Sandusky is rotting in a cell. The administration was fired. Does this really matter? I'm not trying be callous, but this changes nothing for the victims.

Jeffrey Sandusky, Penn State Coach's Son, Pleads Guilty To Child Sexual Abuse.
One of the sons of former Penn State football assistant coach Jerry Sandusky has pleaded guilty to 14 counts of child sexual abuse in Centre County, Pa.
The Centre Daily Times reports that the younger Sandusky was charged earlier this year:
"Jeffrey Sandusky was charged in February after state police at Rockview began an investigation when a 16-year-old known to Jeffrey Sandusky reported that he had sent the minor text messages asking for nude photos in March 2016.
Another minor told police that Jeffrey Sandusky had asked her to perform sex acts on him when she was 15 years old, according to a release from the District Attorney's Office."
Due to go on trial next week, Sandusky, 41, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors and 12 felonies in a deal with prosecutors, under which he would serve three to six years in prison. The judge isn't bound by the deal and could sentence him to up to eight years.
Centre County District Attorney Stacey Parks Miller said the plea spares the victims the trauma of testifying. "We are happy that these girls can move forward and experience a life with adults that deserve their trust," she said.
The elder Sandusky was convicted in 2012 of 45 counts of child sexual abuse and sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison. Earlier this year, three former Penn State officials were given jail sentences for failing to report him to authorities.
Former head coach Joe Paterno, who died in 2012, was fired in 2011, also for failing to adequately report Sandusky.

The apple sure didn't fall far from the tree, did it? This scum needs to spend the rest of his sorry life getting butt raped in prison.
