MLB 2011 Playoffs, Divisional Series Game 5 Extravaganza

The divisional series has been around since 1995, and only once before have three of the four matchups gone to a fifth and deciding game. That was in 2001, and three of the teams involved were the Yankees, Cardinals, and Diamondbacks.

From what I can tell, there have been 14 game 5s in Divisional Series play, and the home team is 6-8.

There really is nothing in sports as cool as a deciding game in baseball. But it's just nerve racking when you're team is playing.

That was in 2001, and three of the teams involved were the Yankees, Cardinals, and Diamondbacks.
Deftones just popped wood.

I know I shouldn't say this but I have this sneaking suspicion that IF the Cardinals can get by the Phillies they will win the World Series.

It's funny you brought up 2001, because this series has reminded me a lot of the Cards/Diamondbacks LDS from that year. Arizona wasn't as dominant as this year's Philly team, but they had Johnson/Schilling and home field advantage so were expected by most to win. And game 5 that year came down to a game 5 pitcher's duel between Schilling/Morris. Hopefully the results will be different this season.

Hey, I was being nice. That doesn't include the 81 divisional series where Philly lost game 5 at home.

I hope the Brewers can take it. I am (attempting) to buy NLCS tickets this AM. I'll know for sure if I get them in about half an hour! It would be cool for a Brewers/Cards final.

just turned down the tix.. 144$ for 2 is way too much for me.. maybe when I can actually afford that amount..., and if the D-backs won, I'd get my $ back for the tix, but not the fee's which were around 20 bucks after processing.

That's pretty crappy that they don't refund the fees.

That stat raised my eyebrows till I realized the "81" was missing an apostrophe in front.

This is great, three elimination games over the next two days. Hope they all turn out to be nail bitters to the end.

Re: MLB 2011 Playoffs, Divisional Series Game 5 Extravaganza

tonight should be fun... my yankees are playing in game 5 of the ALDS... but to be honest, i wont be so disappointed if they lose...

I mean we won Homefield advantage with Garcia and Colon as pitchers... thats a win already.. Secondly, we beat out Boston and they arent even in the Playoffs... that was awesome already...

while it will suck that they wont go to the world series, i really wont be as disappointed as ever...

A bit off topic, but White Sox hire Robin Ventura as manager

I really don't like this pitching match-up for the Tigers.

For the Yankees to come back in game 4 with their backs against the wall and not win game 5 at home with the momentum in the series I think it would be a pretty big let down for me at least.

When you assess the season a few weeks after it's over I think you can say yes, they went far with pretty sketchy pitching, but tonight is a game most Yankee fans are expecting them to win.

Obviously, who the hell knows what's going to happen tonight. They could easily lay an egg.

Girardi overmanaging now. He pulled Hughes too early. So what, any pitcher lets a man on and they're done?
