Re: MLB Thursday, August 25, 2011

The Indians go the Thome claim and the White Sox got Kubel. I can't imagine the Twins and Sox will make a deal happen, but Thome to Cleveland is pretty much a lock if he wants to go.

The Twins have done their best to show support to the Orioles during this sad time for their organization.

Re: MLB Thursday, August 25, 2011

A's looking like they will get the sweep...

Phil Hughes and his 91mph straight as an arrow looks awesome... it was just a matter of time before he start getting lit up again; I don't get why people think he's much better than earlier in the year He threw 78 pitches in less than 3 innings - shockingly with a 91mph fastball, major league hitters seem to be able to foul off pitch after pitch until he eventually makes a mistake. 91 mph straight fastball + curveball + no other viable pitch + extreme flyball pitcher = bullpen arm.

But hey let's keep running him out there because people look at 18 wins (with a not so good ERA and peripherals) last year and think they see a potential #2.... without a good 3rd pitch, it won't be long before he's out of the rotation. Maybe not this year.... but how many 2 pitch starters that throw 91mph start in the major leagues?

Sounds like he'd fit right in with our horrible staff.

Re: MLB Thursday, August 25, 2011

Yankees become the first team in MLB history with 3 grand slams in a game.

They also batted around in 4 consecutive innings (not sure if that is a record)

Re: MLB Thursday, August 25, 2011

So 3 yankees got as many RBI in one at bat today as the Twins got in 5 games this week (4 against the worst team ERA in baseball).

Thome is an Indian again for a PTBNL.

Looks like the Diamondbacks are steadying the ship after that bad losing streak.

Re: MLB Thursday, August 25, 2011

I don't know what the Yankees bench looked like, but I thought it was a little curious to see Granderson and his 35 home runs batting in the 8th inning with the bases loaded and the Yankees up 17-8.

The Cards made up ground on the Brewers today for the first time since May.

Re: MLB Thursday, August 25, 2011

If the all the teams that would be in the playoffs if the season ended today are in the playoffs at the end of the regular season, then this would be, almost certainly, my all-time favorite group of 8.

I'd have a personal favorite or two (maybe 3), but there wouldn't be a single team that I wouldn't enjoy seeing win the World Series and I could only hope that the postseason was as good and exciting as the teams that would be playing in them.

And the Giants lost, too. Up to a 3 game lead, now.
