Re: MLB Monday, August 15, 2011

After seeing how the Brewers won their last 2 games against Pittsburgh, it almost seems as if it's just their year. Cards really need to take care of business against the Pirates. If nothing else, they'll make up ground on the Giants and Braves since they're playing each other.

Twins trade Delmon Young to Detroit for a bucket of balls.

Re: MLB Monday, August 15, 2011

And Delmon Young homers in his first AB for the Tigers.

Still think it was a good trade... he's going to get 5-7mil next year in arbitration so it was more or less a salary dump (or the Twins could have just not offered him arbitration and released him). The lefty they got isn't much but there was probably a decent chance they were just going to non-tender Young next year anyway.

Non-tendering him would have been stupid as well. They have nothing, Cuddy and Kubel are both FA, meaning Morneau is the only bat with any power left for next year and he hasn't shown that for a year an a half. Delmon will likely drive in more runs for some other team next year than anyone in the Twins OF.

Yeah, maybe the saved money helps them sign Cuddy or Kubel or someone else, but that's not making the team any better, and they are already dumping a ton of salary at the end of the year so it shouldn't be an issue.

Is there something that I am completely missing that explains why Young not only passed through waivers, but also was traded for a small package?

Yep pretty nice to finally get that. Delmon had the best seat in the house to see it too.

Hmmm... bunch of fans doing the stupid Tomahawk chop against the annoying beard guy. (bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, 1 out, 1 run game SF/ATL)

Who are you supposed to root against?

Fucking Wilson.

2 run lead going into the bottom of the 9th was like Christmas early.

So annoying to see him constantly pitching around Atlanta instead of challenging the batters.

I don't like to see the Braves gain any ground on the Phils but I think I enjoy it more to see that bearded bozo blow a game.

.265/.304/.357 - and that's including tonight's game. It's all well and good to still believe he had potential, but to suggest he's an effective major league player is sheer nonsense. You've got a guy who does not get on base and does not get extra base hits. And as an added bonus, he's absolutely horrific defensively.

This is addition by subtraction.

Yeah, the Twins are great at getting rid of guys when their value is at their lowest.

Don't worry, I'm sure a platoon outfield of small light hitting outfielders that love to smile will win a bunch of games, since that is what our farm system consists of.
