The 2011 NFL Preseason Thread

(Preseason) Football is back, baby!

Sure, we always look forward to NFL Preseason football, and once it gets here we'll quickly get fed up with it and will begin harping about how long and boring it is, why can't we shorten it and get to the regular season more quickly, do we really have to see all the 2nd and 3rd string players go at it week after week, blah-de-blah-de-blah.

But I tell ya what.... I'll take lousy 3rd string preseason football over baseball (yawn), golf (YAWN), fem hoops (YAAWWWWN), NASCAR (zzzzzz), or any of the other summer "sports". I thank God for boring sports like those because they makes me appreciate the good ol' N-F-of-L just that much more.

Hank, I *am* ready for some football!

Football, baby! Foot. Ball!

And as always, I am juiced for the Preseason, and after watching the first quarter and all the regulars are pulled....I am ready for the Regular Season and wont watch another minute of preseason!

I do this every year!

I'm pretty much the same way. Also, I hate Jon Gruden. I've actually kept watching just because one of my guitar pickups is messed up, so I don't feel like going and playing now.

Seahawks win, 24-17, like it really matters

Edit: What might matter is a possible high ankle sprain for SEA LT Russell Okung

Eagles looked pretty crisp. Ronnie Brown is going to be the difference maker, I think.

That would require Andy Reid actually calling running plays during the regular season, something he seems allergic to.

Re: The 2011 NFL Preseason Thread

Not last night. Although that could have been a result of the inept play of Vince Young. Looked to me like Kafka should be the #2 QB in Philadelphia.

Ravens trade a fourth-rounder to Buff for Lee Evans. Evans was OK for me a few years ago and bitterly disappointing a couple years ago so it will be interesting to see how he responds. And another target for Flacco.

Re: The 2011 NFL Preseason Thread

Second half of Cowboys game was pretty entertaining. 5 TD's, a last minute drive with a TD pass on 4th down, and then a 2 point convert with 15 secs left to win it!

But Tim Tebow stole the show.

Tim Tebow scrambled far to his left, inches from the sideline, saw some resistance and headed back the other way. He was around the middle of the field when he decided to pass, lobbing the ball over a defender to a waiting teammate, who took off toward the end zone.

It could've been the latest addition to Tebow's legacy -- if only he hadn't gone a full stride over the line of scrimmage, a lineman hadn't illegally been down the field and another teammate hadn't clobbered someone in the back.

Instead, by the end of it, even one of the officials was chuckling.

Ronnie Brown did look good last night, but most of the Ravens starters were out by then.

Philly talk radio was driving me crazy today as everyone was WAY overanalyzing this game last night consider Vick and the #1's only played one offensive series. I always hesitate to look too much into the preseason simply because it isn't nearly the same it was 20 years ago when the #1's played alot more then they do now.

I will say that because of the new rules you can kiss a return on a kickoff goodbye is all I saw last night were touchbacks. At this point, why doesn't Goodell just have each team start on the 20 yard line.

Re: The 2011 NFL Preseason Thread

Stafford sure is talented. I really hope he can stay healthy this year and doesn't turn into a sad case of never staying healthy. If he can, that offense is going to be a lot of fun to watch. He and Calvin had some serious mojo rolling from what I saw. w/ stafford playing 16 games and Burleson and Young doing the same, Megatron could put up some ridiculous numbers this year. he'll be good for 85/1300/10 or so no matter what, but i'm excited to see him blossom this year into a true superstar.

I was almost hoping for a long lockout.

on Philly sports radio football talk is non stop and has been like that since Buddy Ryan coached.
Its become a bore to listen to almost nothing but football talk 24/7.

Did anyone catch that Don Tollefson call the Eagles game.
Everything was, "I have to tell you, that's exactly the way the Eagles want to run a 4 yard run" or just put an "I have to tell you..." in front of just about every sentence.
He said the eagles first field goal Was perfect right down the middle, when it almost hit the right upright.

Looks like Jeremy Maclin will be rejoining the Eagles and is fine. He had a cancer scare, including having lymph nodes removed. He tested negative for lymphoma and says he's now healthy and ready to get back to football.

The rumors around town are that a massive deal to keep Fitzgerald as a Cardinal for many more years is getting close to being done.

That telecast was terrible, as the Eagles propaganda machine was in full tilt. For a second, I thought I was watching the Packers first preseason game cause they were talking about the Eagles like they were the defending Superbowl Champs!

Leonard Davis is apparently in Detroit and will sign tomorrow to replace the god awful Stephen Peterman on the o-line...that would be a huge upgrade.

An upgrade of about 30 pounds. Fine for a depth move, but Davis is 32 and has been very inconsistent in Dallas.

GIANTS QB MANNING SAYS HE'S IN THE SAME CLASS AS BRADY

For the better part of the last ten years, football fans have debated on who the greater quarterback is; Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.

On Tuesday, Eli Manning added himself among the elite in the game.

A guest on The Michael Kay Show on ESPN New York 1050, the New York Giants quarterback didn't shy away from the question when asked if he is in the same class as Brady.

"I consider myself in that class," Manning said.

Re: The 2011 NFL Preseason Thread

Terrell Pryor ruled eligible for the supplemental draft. I would take him as a TE, big, insane speed for his size. But as a QB I see him as another Tebow. He's a great athlete but he simply doesn't posses an NFL arm.
