Hoping the Crew can keep the wins coming. Should be a good battle of 10 game winners tonight with Marcum & Garcia on the mound. Go Brewers!!!

Re: MLB Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Phil Hughes.... Girardi better have the long man prepped and ready tonight! (Girardi's probably salivating over all the potential bullpen moves he can make)

Not sure why the Yankees continue to run him out there when he hasn't bothered to develop a credible 3rd pitch and one of his 2 pitches is now a straight as an arrow 91mph fastball. Do the Yankees really think he's going to be a major league starter with a 91mph fastball and only one other good pitch (curve)? Even when he was throwing 94mph last year the warning signs were there - he had one of the worst GB rates among any qualified starter and the advanced stats said he should have been over a 4.00 ERA in every month but one. (so his hot start an low ERA in the first half had a little luck/JA Happ in it)

They just need to look at AJ Burnett (and both of his pitches are better than Hughes)... that is Hughes' UPSIDE without a 3rd useful pitch.

If he has another bad outing, I hope they "Zito" him and stick him on the DL (who was put on the 15 day with a foot injury). He needs to spend some time in the minors working on a 3rd pitch or he is going to be a bullpen pitcher.

Re: MLB Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Cardinals are just such a bush league team...

Pujols gets hit by a pitch... very first Brewers batter the following inning gets thrown at (even the Brewers announcers knew it was coming)
After missing him with one pitch, Motte throws ANOTHER pitch at him and drills the batter....LaRussa then removes him (clearly he was left in simply to bean someone)

At what point does MLB start suspending LaRussa (and the Cardinal pitchers) for this shit?

Not only that but there was that slide from Holliday the other day.

Also the Pirates have just spiralled since that bad call last week.

In other news, Ryan Howard is on a roll two Long homers today, Thank you Hunter Pence.

Re: MLB Tuesday, August 2, 2011

^ I was kind of thinking about that as well...

Pretty much anytime Pujols is hit either the next inning or the next day, LaRussa has one of his pitchers bean someone (even if it was clearly unintentional like it was tonight)

Motte took his shot, missed him and that should have been the end of it (the message was still delivered). Throwing a second pitch at him should lead to a suspension as there is zero doubt on intent, but with Torre as the disciplinarian there will likely be a minor ($1500) fine, if anything.

I don't think the Giants know about the sac fly. They NEVER do it.

Lincecum gets his one run of support. Could be enough to get the win tonight.

That was awesome. My jinx worked. I posted 30 seconds before he crushed that fucker.

I still have a sick feeling the Giants will find a way to pull this one out of their ass.

Re: MLB Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Some Giants fans (myself included) want the hitting coach (Hensley Meulens) to be fired, and of course, there's the rebuttal saying that the hitters are responsible - and firing the hitting coach won't really solve anything.

so I decided to look up Hensley Meulens' career stats - he's a career .220 hitter, with 15 HR in seven MLB seasons. And 165 strikeouts in 496 AB (about one K every three ABs).

I guess I shouldn't be surprised the Giants can't hit.

Re: MLB Tuesday, August 2, 2011

^Well since the Giants won the WS last year, even though they didn't hit particularly well, I think that affords Meulens a pass this year. He won't lose his job this season. He'll be let go after the season....if they don't repeat that is.

I actually remember Meulens playing with the Yankees in the early 90s. It was pretty brutal.

The Pirates have become the Pirates again 5 straight losses. Looks like the clock has struck midnight for them. Hurdle deserves some criticism for not using Hanrahan in some of those close losses.

Totally agree. Motte deserves a suspension but will probably get a slap on the wrist. Also, how abot Yadier Molina in the top of the 10th. Gets called out looking and EXPLODES on the umpire - spitting and bumping included. He'll be gone for a few games.

Edit: whotony beat me to it.

Justin Upton was talking to Paul Goldschmidt and he was like "anything you can do, I can do better." Fucking crushed that shit. Only the 2nd hit and 1st run the Giants bullpen has given up at home since before the ASG! That's nuts!
