Bedard will be interesting to watch in his first start back. If he lasts six innings, he's a viable trade piece. If he throws 16 pitches then walks off holding his arm, that would be one final screwover to the Mariners.

Re: MLB Friday, July 29, 2011

Phils trade talk so far has been all Pence all the time on local radio.

The latest to come out is three teams might need to be involved and theYankees might be the third team.

Phils would get Pence, Yanks would get Dom Brown and the Astros would get prospects. The talk is that the Astros don't want Brown so the Phils need to bring another team in to get a deal done.

I heard that too... but why exactly would the Yankees want a 3rd left handed hitting OF'r? Swisher has a club option for next year so there's potentially a spot open next year but would they really want an all lefty OF? It just seems like a bad fit. I also wonder how much Brown nets in terms of pitching... the Yankees have been hesitant to trade even 2 of their pitchers for Jimenez (granted Montero's also in that package).

I wonder how valid those rumors are; this seems more like a reporter saying Astros want young pitching, the Yankees have prospects so lets speculate they could be involved. If the Yankees were looking for a left handed OF bat I could see it, but that's probably what they need the least.

Re: MLB Friday, July 29, 2011

The left field fence is about 260 from home plate isn't it? Any lefty who can get the ball in the air has a chance to hit a ton of homers.

Looks like Phils are taking it out on the Pirates tonight they have 8-0 lead after two, but looks like a lot of rain is headed in.

Mariners DFA Cust, trade Ryan Langerhans to AZ for cash, and sign Wily Mo Pena

yeah... all you hear is that short porch in left field....
And I think it's about 230feet in right field... and I hear right center is also something like 300 feet away so basically anything right of CF that's a popup is a HR.

Didn't you try this same ridiculous argument with Granderson HR totals a few months back?

Brown is a bad fit not because he's a lefty hitter, but because the Yankees already have a bunch of lefty hitters in the OF, not to mention they really don't need OF'rs, they need pitching. Which would make trading pitching prospects for a position player seem a bit odd....

Re: MLB Friday, July 29, 2011

Ugh, I actually meant right field, at least you smilied me this time.

I exaggerate but I'm still convinced that fence is shorter than what is posted.

I'm not trying to say the Yanks need Brown, just trying to think of a reason why they would trade for him, I don't think they will, and now the reports are that Houston doesn't have interest in multiple team deals.

Re: MLB Friday, July 29, 2011

Ken Rosenthal reporting Phillies are pretty close to closing the deal on Hunter Pence for Cosart (A ball pitcher), Singleton (A Ball LF/1B) and 2 lesser prospects.

Oddly no mention of the Yankees being involved in the deal or giving up pitching prospects to get a much needed boost to their OF.

EDIT - Pence was pulled from the starting lineup and was reportedly getting hugs from his teammates in the dugout...

They just showed that Pence thing on the Phils game and are sayi g the Phils probably are the team to get him.

Surprising to not have to have given up Dom Brown too.

Phillies Clearwater affiliate pulled Singleton in the 8th. Pence deal is done. Ed Wade and the Astros are like the Phillies farm system.

Need some bullpen help now.

Otherwise they'd be in luxury tax vicinity, I think.

2009 Cliff Lee / 2010 Roy Oswalt / 2011 Hunter Pence. Let's hope it works this year.

Pence is a decent player but I wouldn't get too excited about him. He can hit alright and has good speed but doesn't always make the best decisions. And I see that Colby Rasmus has been on a tear since being traded to the Jays.

I agree that Pence isn't a difference maker like Beltran is... but this makes the Phils, already the NL favorites, even better.

The Yankees really making Gunthrie look like the stud that everyone wants to trade for.

Re: MLB Friday, July 29, 2011

Bedard not exactly helping his trade value...

In his first start back from the DL, he threw 57 pitches over 1.1innings and was yanked (faced 11 batters and gave up 4 walks and 3 hits)

I'm pretty sure this wasn't a Hunter Pence situation where he was pulled from the game because he was traded

Wow. Who would've thought a top 3 salary team getting a premiere player this trade deadline. Fucking sickening how broken baseball is in regard this shit. And Phillies apologists will say "but they got money with the deal and there is so much money coming off the books next year, their team payroll will be less!" smoke and mirrors. the haves continue to fuck up this game because they can afford to do deals like this while other teams can not.

This. Seriously, those 5 HR are good for fourth most on the active roster.
