Looking forward to tonight's game to see if Beachy can finally pull a W from the Phillies.

Heading out to Yankee Stadium tomorrow, so I'm hoping Jeter doesn't come up with two or more hits tonight.

Yeah, Chip's a gimp, Prado has stank leg and Uggla/Heyward/McLouth/Gonzalez need head-ass extraction. Other than that, Atlanta is pretty much fine.

With all the injuries these might still be the two best teams in baseball right now.

The Pirates 5th string catcher just hit a 3 run hr in a bottom of the eight to give the Bucs a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the eight. I still have no idea how this team is winning games. Clint Hurdle must have a good luck charm or something.

It helps to own the crappy Cubs, who are truly terrible on a year when no one's running away with the division.

clint hurdle was always a pretty good manager. seems like he's getting the most of the talent on the team, which is something previous managers weren't able to do.

They should start tearing that team down now. They need multiple young starting position players. They probably need starting pitching help as well. They're also stuck with Soriano's contract.

I don't see a lot of position players down in the minors who could help them in the near future, except for maybe Brett Jackson. Blown save aside, one guy who they should be shopping hard is Carlos Marmol. He still has two affordable years left on his contract and GM's have a tendency to overvalue relief pitching. He might be able to bring in a really nice package of young players to infuse the Cubs' minor league system.

Arizona trying to give away the game to the Cards. Up 7-6 in the 9th, they've walked the lead-off guy (Pujols) and just committed an error on a potential game ending double play ball.

Edit: St. Louis can't take advantage.

David Hernandez with a clutch save. Winning the 1st 2 on the road against the Cards is fucking awesome.

Twins continue to just dominate the White Sox. Not sure I can remember a decent team being this thoroughly owned over such a long period of time. It really defies explanation at this point.

Thank you Scott Proctor. I didn't have to watch the walk-off home run because I quit watching when you took the mound.

Yeah, they don't have a lot of great options. Thankfully Fukudome's contract comes off the books, and most likely A-Ram's too. Soriano is the biggest problem, and Zambrano still has some time unless they trade him.

Yup, Jackson is the best position prospect. They still have hope for Vitters (who they resisted dealing for Peavy) but I don't know how he's done this year. Quick bat but no plate discipline.

No question Marmol is a strength but I agree he's probably your biggest dealable chip, and closers can flame out quickly.

I was not a big fan of the Garza trade. Sure, he's a horse and still only 27, but it's more of a move for a team closer to contention. Or a GM concerned about his status. Or a new owner concerned about maintaining fan interest.

Re: MLB Friday, July 8, 2011

Josh Hamilton can't win:

[Friday night] Hamilton... hit a fan with a foul ball off his bat. The teenage male fan had blood on his face and was tended to by stadium personnel before he walked away, smiling while he held a compress to his head.

Rangers officials said the fan was treated at the stadium and was OK. They didn't identify him or provide additional details.

"I saw it happen," Hamilton said. "Again."

Hamilton said the fan didn't appear to be paying attention to the field when the ball struck him.
http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/mlb...ory?id=6750212

One hopes that the Rangers or Hamilton will not be sued over the guy's death Thursday. Or that MLB overreacts and bans ball-tossing to the crowd.
