stupid yes, but instinct kicks in and stuff like this just happens. to be honest, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often

Not saying this isn't worthy of its own thread, but there's been some comments on it in the daily baseball thread.

It happened last year at the same stadium. Really freaky. Guy fell 30 feet and cracked his skull. Even more morbid in the video is that the young son sees the whole thing.

I just don't understand how this guy's danger instinct didn't kick in? His motion falling down was as if there is a mattress down below. He didn't try to grab the rail or swing his hands at all. I suppose at the end of day, it's not going to help much but man that was a horrible way to go.

It sounds like they did, though. He was conscious and awake after he fell. If it's true he died of a heart attack and not the fall, his instincts probably did save him from dying directly from the impact.

wow it's pretty messed up the commentators just say "just for a baseball" and laugh. It's pretty obvious the guy fell 30 feet head first and they act like it's nothing?

I would imagine those tv commentators will apologize on tv tonight about the whole thing.

Re: Fan dies trying to catch ball at Texas Rangers game

There's a few things I see wrong with what that guy did.

I see a ballplayer tossing a ball to the kid, not to the guy. He dives across in front of the kid to get the ball. That's one thing wrong.

The other is that he just flings himself out there without regard for his own safety to catch the ball.
He didn't have to do anything but let the ball come up there. It was a nice soft toss, just pick it up off the ground.
No sense at all.

Shitty deal for everyone. That poor kid. That's going to be tough for him to get past.

You can bet that if the Rangers meet the Yankees in the playoffs the New York fans will be calling Josh names.

"God's plan".

People actually say that with a straight face. Unreal.

Ok.. If the guy died of a heart attack.. how can people keep saying he died cause he fell. The guy could have just as easily died sitting in his seat. Ya never know.

Totally true. Also, if he let someone else get the ball, he might have had a heart attack out of sadness.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the traumatic fall had some correlation with the fatal heart attack that followed.

Leaving personal religious beliefs out of the debate, Josh found something to give him strength and help fight off his demons. There's plenty of people out there that would be much better off if they could do the same.
