Re: MLB Friday, June 10, 2011

I find this whole "bat flip" incident to be hilarious. Neither side really seems to give a shit. Girardi was asked point blank what he thought of it and his response was that he "didn't care for it", which is the typical response you expect from such a question. Then the media blows it up to be a huge deal that just wasn't there. Gotta love ESPN.

Then after yesterday's plunking of Ortiz, Beckett says "I don't know if it's something I did or if something ESPN stirred up"... pretty much acknowledging that ESPN made the whole thing a bigger deal than it was.

And of course the reason Ortiz got hit was because 4 Yankees were hit that series and it was just a little retaliation. Good move by CC to do that. Of course it would have been nicer if the Yankees didn't get swept.

Hopefully this is 2009 all over again.

The amount of stock adults put into catching a foul ball is ridiculous. It's a god damn baseball for crying out loud.

Re: MLB Friday, June 10, 2011

During the Giants game a few days ago, Cody Ross accidentally swung his bat into the stands. Some guy was close to the bat and was about pick it up, but some guy from like four rows down ran towards the bat, pushed the other guy with one hand and grabbed the bat with his other hand. Then he cheered like crazy when he got the bat.

Re: MLB Friday, June 10, 2011

espn.com has a story about MLB and Players Union in talks of realignment for the upcoming CBA:

1. Move Houston Astros to the AL, so you have 15 teams in each league (sticking point is that they would have to have an interleague series for the whole season)

2. Eliminate Divisions (15 teams in the NL, and 15 teams in the AL) Top 4 teams in each league make the playoffs.

no problem with 2, but 1 doesn't seem like a good idea unless the idea of interleague is now to play series against all teams.

Re: MLB Friday, June 10, 2011

Here is my proposal:

-Move the Astros to the AL West.

-Abolish the DH so you can have Interleague play games everyday.

-Each team plays 1 series(3 games) against the other league (15 teams x 3 games = 45 games)

-Each team plays 2 series(6 games) against the other divisions in your league (10 teams x 6 game = 60 games)

-Each team plays 4 series(12 games) against your division (4 teams x 12 games = 48 games)

-This would make a 153 game schedule, so you can start the wildcard round arond September 20th, so the World Series can start by mid October like it used to be.

The Reds are the only NL team that Lincecolm has yet to win against in his young career.

Making it a free for all eliminating Divisions might not be such a crappy idea. If they do it though, there would be a major schedule overhaul. For it to work, inter-league play would need to be eliminated. Since the concentration of games is vs. division teams, you'd have to make it equitable where everyone in the league plays each other roughly the same amount of times. I could see days off will be sparsed into long home and away stands. The players may like it more, having more days off on road trips. This is doable, I think.

Re: MLB Friday, June 10, 2011

I don't know - wasn't the whole point of going to three divisions and adding a wild card so that more teams would be in the pennant race down the stretch? This would eliminate that, to a degree. In past years, there wouldn't be a relevant team on the entire west coast under this setup.

Yeah, the AL especially would risk losing a lot of fans I think.

It's actually top five teams make the playoffs, so it would be ten teams in.
