Go Brewers. Lets sweep the Fish.. And BS on the 13,208 attendance for Sunday's game. There wasn't more than 5k there.

Tied for first in the AL

And I still don't think the offense is playing up to it's potential. Thankfully we have Bartolo Colon. Second in the AL in runs allowed, who saw that coming?

Sounds like Pitt has settled on Gerritt Cole. So I assume Sea goes for Rendon unless the medical reports are terrible.

Re: MLB Monday, June 6, 2011

question for Twins fans: We're planning a weekend road trip to Minneapolis - and going to visit Target Field. Since the seats are pretty expensive and we have small kids with no attention span anyway, I'm thinking about just getting SRO tickets. Can you access all areas of the ballpark with these tickets? Is there a play area for toddlers? Any picnic benches where we can park ourselves and watch the game on monitors?

Re: MLB Monday, June 6, 2011

There are a few areas you won't be able to get to (the Legends and Metropolitan clubs). But you can pretty much take in the whole place. There aren't really good sitting spots for families, but there are a lot of railings you can stand by (out in left especially) and some bars with field view.

If you can get your hands on a season ticket (or know somebody that can loan you their card), the Met club has some good seating, you can even have a nice meal overlooking the field. It's pricey, but good, and if you factor in the price of a cheap ticket, it's not too bad.

Re: MLB Monday, June 6, 2011

Thanks for the tips. We were planning on going the weekend of 8/6 to watch the white sox there but it turns out we may be pushing back to labor day week as since it's during the week the tickets are much cheaper on stubhub.

Re: MLB Monday, June 6, 2011

Just be careful, we'll be back in first by then, so ticket prices will naturally be higher.

If you do figure out a weekend for sure, let me know. I have a buddy that is selling some cheaper seats for some games that do get you into the met club.

My linear regression shows they'll be 36 games back by then.

I'll let you know when our plans get more concrete.

Re: MLB Monday, June 6, 2011

Detroit's making a run in the AL Central, only 2.5 games back. Will be interesting to see if this is merely a slump for Cleveland, or the beginning of the fade. Their pitching has cooled off, and I think it is the beginning of a fade (maybe not to the bottom - their lineup is still pretty damn good).

KC looked good early on and they are now making their annual run for the worst record in the AL. While they have pitching prospects on the horizon (I think they have 3 or 4 starters on the top 100 prospect list), 1 of them is undergoing TJ surgery. A lot of people were saying 2012 for KC to start looking better but I think it's more end of 2013/2014....

Anyone else geeked out watching the Draft? Dbacks have 3rd and 7th and all indications they are going after pitching. If so, this team could be stacked in a few years, especially since they have Skaggs and Parker waiting in the wings.

Re: MLB Monday, June 6, 2011

I love baseball, but due to lack of significant college coverage the length of time it takes most guys to make the majors, I can't really get into the draft.

Mariners must have gotten really spooked by Rendon's injuries. Could be huge for the Nats if he stays healthy.

And yeah, it's hard to get to geeked out because of path to the majors, but I love all draft stuff.

I sat and watched the draft crawl for a few minutes, realized I didn't know any of the names, and moved on. I wish I could say that I followed the amateurs a bit, but I just don't. I'll just trust the Twins to select a kid who projects to be a slap-hitting middle infielder or a left-handed pitcher who throws in the high-80s.

They have used tickets sold for that number for a long time now, not people who come through the turnstile.

Re: MLB Monday, June 6, 2011

I love high school stats. Cubs drafted a SS who "hit .771 (64-for-83), with 22 home runs, 20 doubles and six triples in his senior year. He stole 28 bases, walked 32 times and struck out three times."

So three-quarters of his hits were for extra bases His slugging % was 1.951, his OBP was .835, and OPS was 2.786.

If he maintained those numbers in the pros maybe they could have a season over .500 again...

The Cubs need bats in their system so it's a good pick.

I think Rendon's shoulder injury must be more serious than it's being let on since 5 teams passed on him.

I'm leery about the Pirates picking another college P with a top 10 pick. Those haven't worked out at all in the past.

Re: MLB Monday, June 6, 2011

This is the best part of the write-up: "The last time the club selected a shortstop with its first pick was in '00, when it drafted Lou Montanez, who was converted to an outfielder and is currently on the club's Major League roster."

Montanez was drafted third overall to be the next A-Rod, flopped, floated through the minor leagues, got a chance with the Orioles last year, then signed a minor-league deal with the Cubs and happened to get called up earlier this year due to injuries or bad play. Way to sugarcoat it.

Re: MLB Monday, June 6, 2011

It really hurt the White Sox couldn't get at least 2 of 3 from Detroit over the weekend with Cleveland finally showing signs of slowing down. If you go toe to toe with Verlander to make it to the last inning tied, you gotta win that game. We've now lost 5 of 6 against a tough division rival - same old song and dance. I unfortunately was at Sunday's game. if the Sox can't catch up I really think it's going to be Detroit's division this year, and as usual the wild card will come from the East.

Nice to see Danks get his first win last night, and he deserved it - great performance. Seattle's pitching is pretty damn good. I expect a 1 or 2 hitter tonight against "King" Felix and his crooked hat.

Oh, and it's time to bench Dunn if we want to stay in this race. His spot in the lineup is almost like batting a pitcher.
