Lots of interesting interleague matchups on tap. And some not-so-interesting ones...

The only good thing to likely come out of interleague this weekend for me is that I have Ian Kennedy on my fantasy team.

Meh, interleague. At least I don't need to suffer through the DH yet.

Me too. And I made sure to put him in my lineup, though I'm slightly concerned with this recent Twins uprising.

You guys are far too confident the Dbacks will do something against the Twins.

Re: MLB Friday, May 20, 2011

Not really fair to say. Sure, he sucked when he was on the yankees against the AL, but that was like 4 years ago when he was basically a rookie. he's only pitched 3 games as a DBack against AL teams. nothing spectacular for sure, but he wasn't horrible.

I'd say his performance this year and most of last year should give anyone confidence in him.

In the Ian Kennedy deal? 3 team deal with DET, AZ and NYY. Yanks got Granderson.

Oh right. For some reason I thought they traded Kennedy two years ago because he wasn't on the WS team... but that was because he was in the minors at the time.

Looking back are you happy with that trade Deftones? You got Ian Kennedy, a legit 3 starter right now with upside... Edwin Jackson who was flipped for Daniel Hudson (who also seems to have a lot of upside) and a minor leaguer I don't know about. You gave up Max Scherzer who right now looks like a future ace. Fair?

I'm ok with it from the Yankees standpoint. Austin Jackson has a ton of potential but Granderson was established and I'd rather take an established player over potential. Ian Kennedy just didn't work for the Yankees. Phil Coke is a solid left reliever but it's not too hard to replace his production. Meanwhile Granderson has been great so far this season after an average first season.

But I think the Tigers made out the best in the deal. A future ace that will be nasty back to back with Verlander and a center fielder who can be there for the next 10 years. All they gave up was an established player on a rebuilding team and Edwin Jackson who is actually still helping the Tigers by playing for the White Sox.

Re: MLB Friday, May 20, 2011

Kennedy a #3? In the NL West he's a #1 and Hudson could probably be the #1 if Kennedy wasn't here. I'd say outside of many of the power house teams with legit a legit #1 and #2, both those guys could be a #2. To get both of them from that deal and the follow up deal is a steal, IMHO. Scherzer is far from being a legit #1 ace. He throws far too many pitches and relies too much on the strikeout right now.

Re: MLB Friday, May 20, 2011

Well I won't debate on where Kennedy and Hudson fall on the depth chart. I don't watch the DBacks so all I can go by are the numbers I see. But I still think that Scherzer has the most potential of the group. But I think all three teams can be happy about the deal a year later.

Re: MLB Friday, May 20, 2011

I agree, that deal made a lot of sense for all the teams. Though, losing Scherzer's bat was probably the only downside for AZ (he could mash right?)

Re: MLB Friday, May 20, 2011

Scherzer is going to break down in a few years due to his delivery. Mark my words. That's why the Dbacks gave him up so readily. He was the prospect in the system, but the team got some medical reports that indicated a breakdown was likely.

Scherzer wasn't much of a hitter, though. You thinking of Micah Owings? Ironically he's back on the team and will pitch Saturday against the Twins.

Yeah, Owings was the guy. Didn't realize he was back. I guess we'll see if he can still blast them against our batting practice philosophy of pitching.

Seems like Owings could rake better than he could pitch, at least around the time he was getting lots of hype
