Re: MLB Weekend, May 14-15, 2011

The Reds optioned Leake to AAA today, and activated Jose Arredondo. This was somewhat expected as LeCure is the long man in the pen, so really no need for Leake since Cueto and Bailey re-joined the rotation last week, in excellent fashion, I might add.

So Cueto, faces the Cards for the first time today since last August's brawl, which had Cueto landing a few spike strikes to Jason LaRue's head. It'd be hard to believe the Cards are not pining for vengeance. Let's just hope the Cards concentrate it on the field, and not something stupid, like throwing baseballs at the man's head.

Should be interesting. I think the events of that brawl last season have largely been put behind the 2 teams, but I'd be shocked if Cueto didn't see a brushback pitch of some kind today. I certainly don't condone a "head shot" of any kind, but I'd certainly gain a measure of satisfaction with Cueto taking one in the ribs. With all that being said, I'm certain the umpires are well aware of the possibility. If anything happens, we'll see warnings issued pretty quickly.

If he does take one in the ribs, I hope he just puts his head down, takes the free base, and both teams put it in the past and move on.

Agreed. I love the developing rivalry between the Reds/Cards, but would prefer to see that continue between the lines.

Fucking Posada. Instead of accepting the demotion to 9th in the order, he decides to take his ball and go home.

Holy balls, I went to a movie just after the Twins took the lead 3-2...I get home and see they lost 9-3 in 11. What a hopeless mess.

Re: MLB Weekend, May 14-15, 2011

First of all, I can understand Jorge's frustration. He's done great things in his career and now he's 40 and they've taken away his position (although why he's not the backup catcher still confuses me, but that's neither here nor there)... they make him DH and he's batting .167 after 6 weeks and just looking old at the plate. He's a player that can't field, can't run and as of right now... can't hit. So I can see why he's pissed but he's been such a waste at the plate that Girardi made the absolute right decision to bat him 9th. No question.

So instead of sacking up, realizing that he's the worst hitter in the lineup and doing whatever he can to help the team win he decides to take his bat and go home. It's a pathetic move and to make it worse he pretends like his back stiffed up. Then when told that Cashman said it wasn't injury related Jorge ripped into him. No one on the team is against you here Jorge. If your back was stiff and you said as much to Cashman he would have reported it that way. We know who is bullshitting us here. Be a man Jorge and say that you felt too proud to bat 9th so you sat out instead. Then realize that by doing so you weren't being a team player and you let your teammates, pretty much all of whom are struggling, down. Now go and apologize to everyone in the front office, coaching staff and team for being selfish. I've lost a lot of respect for Posada a guy who I always thought would be above something like this.

And as a side note, Swisher (currently batting .221) was moved to 8th in the line up too. He's got a lot more riding on performing well this season than Posada does, Swish has an option he wants the Yankees to pick up. So it's not like Girardi was singling out Jorge here. He was retooling a line up that hasn't been getting it done lately with the exception of two or three guys.

8-0 Blue Jays over the Twins in the 4th.

I think this one might be over.

Re: MLB Weekend, May 14-15, 2011

The Reds have been kicking the Cardinals tail these last 2 days. Chris Carpenter hasn't looked sharp for much of this season. If he doesn't turn things around, he'll present an interesting circumstance for St. Louis. I think he's got an expensive team option for next season ($15 million?) and there's no way they'd pick that up if he continues with an ERA of near 5.

Re: MLB Weekend, May 14-15, 2011

The Cards make a decent comeback scoring 5 times in the 9th inning (special thanks to Dusty Baker for allowing the Reds walk machine, Chapman, to put 4 guys on in the inning). According to the Cards radio guys, Cordero was pointing in to the St. Louis dugout after recording the last out. They also said Cueto was involved in some barking back and forth.

He did that because the Cards thought he hit Pujols on purpose. He explained in the post game that he would be an idiot to do that with Holliday on deck as the potential go ahead run.

No kidding. Errr, is all I can say about Chapman right now. Though not a lefty, thankfully Arredondo is up.

Pujols was hit with a pitch by Cordero, looked to be on his front arm, but later to see it was a wrist. I think obviously non-intentional, but I understand the banter from dugout to the mound. Cordero was mouthing right back though. So continues the animosity...

In sincerity, I hope Pujols is ok. Hanigan was hit in the hand yesterday. Not a titfortat thing, just baseball.

With that said, I've always loved this song. Pretty much hate all rock 'n roll these days, so...

We'll enjoy it for what it was...

White Sox hold on and take 2 of 3 from Oakland. The A's have an awful lineup, but damn they have a solid pitching staff.
