Re: MLB Wednesday, May 11, 2011

There are a million examples of the Twins woes, but this one is especially fun:

So far this season, Cuddyer has three home runs and four RBI in 122 plate appearances. That means he's driven in exactly one player who isn't named Cuddyer.

That was Jason Kubel with a fielder's choice on April 23 against Cleveland.

Save for the solo home runs, Cuddyer does not have a run-scoring hit in the 52 times he's batted with runners on base -- including 27 with runners in scoring position.

So the Indians hosted the Rays last night to a crowd of 13,000. Must have made the Rays feel right at home with those low numbers. When is Cleveland going to start showing up? Their team is kicking ass so far this season.

Kubel! Our only batter comes through. (that was the Twins first 3+ run shot of the year, more than they get in most games)

Re: MLB Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Yankees pitching... 2 hits.... 2 runs...

AJ pitched well (7 innings, 1 hit, 1ER), but gets a ND thanks to Robertson walking people into a position where KC could score the tying run on a single.

Yankees have 16 baserunners in first 7 innings and have a grand total of 2 runs (1 on a solo HR, so they have gotten 15 guys on base in the first 7 innings and only 1 runner scored)

Ryan Franklin proving to be an equally ineffective middle reliever for St. Louis.

Re: MLB Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Awesome... Yankee relievers walk the leadoff guy in 3 of 4 innings and all 3 score. (Mariano is the only reliever who apparently understands walking the lead off guy is kind of a bad thing)

4hits allowed in 11innings... and of course 4 runs (the last run coming thanks to walk, infield single, walk, sac fly)... it is unbelievable to just watch pitchers just give away runs because they can't throw a strike - the Yankee relievers not named Mariano walked 6 batters in just 3 innings of work.

Yankees have 21 baseunners, 12 hits and thanks to Joe "you can never bunt enough" Girardi lose. Soria comes in and throws 6 straight balls... so the sound strategy is obviously to bunt. After a foul bunt, the guy throws another ball, and Girardi is STILL bunting on a 3-1 pitch, because you really want to give the guy an out when he's trying to walk people. This is the 2nd time in a week where a reliever has thrown 6 straight balls and Girardi is still bunting. Is he really that dumb?

Franklin flat out sucks! It took him until the second inning to get started but once he did the runs started pouring in.

I should hate Hunter Pense, but I just can't not like the guy. He looks so goofy out there, and gets it done. Off day for the Reds tomorrow, taking it back home to face the Cardinals for a weekend series. I can't remember when the Reds won a Cards series.

OK, I was definitely wrong on this one.

I worked late and didn't watch the game.

Re: MLB Wednesday, May 11, 2011

OMG what a way for the Sox to win the game and the series.

After getting 2 to tie in the 9th and 2 to go ahead in the 10th, Paulie does his best vertical leap to rob Izturis of a one-out single, and then gives the behind the back toss to Thornton to rob Abreu of a sure infield bunt hit. Thornton with his first save!

Edited to add: the go ahead run was scored on a wild intentional walk pitch, which also put a runner a third who was later sac'd in. Wow.

Re: MLB Wednesday, May 11, 2011

The Braves are killing me. They can beat Greinke, Lee and Halladay, they can take two out of three in Philly, yet they can't beat the scrubs and get their asses handed to them every time they face the Nats. I couldn't watch the last two games, so I'm checking mlb last night and see that Heyward is hurt again...
