2011: NY Mets march towards a championship

We're in 1st place!

Ok, even I can't muster the enthusiasm to post this with a straight face, but pedagogue has been posting these for years, so I thought I'd help him out and show a little love.

I will say that I think the Mets have the chance to be quite a bit better than the total suckage that most people expect. People see all the poor decisions and therefore assume they will suck, but forget that they have some players who can be the best or near the best at their positions. Wright and reyes are still young, and Beltran may have something left in the tank. And Bay should return to form. And they have a few decent pitchers.

Not saying they will match the Phils or even contend for a playoff berth, but they won't lose 100 games or anything.

You had me until you said that Beltran might have something left in the tank.

he had one bad year that was injury related (and had the prior year cut short by injury). He may be done, but I think it's too early to write him off.

The Mets have to be better this season after getting rid of Oliver Perez. The whole addition by subtraction theory at work!

I was wondering when this thread would appear.

It was on hiatus last year I think.

Ollie P and Looey C are both gone. Sometimes you have to cut off a dead limb to save the rest of the patient.

.500!!

If they end the year at even I'd consider it a solid season for the banged up and ill equipped Mets squad.

I don't think they will trade him. I do expect Beltran and K-Rod to go.

Re: 2011: NY Mets march towards a championship

I definitely think they trade both those guys. I don't want them to make a run because they have ZERO shot at advancing in the playoffs.

I agree that I'd like to see them as sellers at the deadline. But I'd like to keep Reyes.

well obviously at this moment (my last post was made before I knew of the injury) everyone would want to make sure it wasn't serious. But if it's not a serious injury, hell yeah he'd be wanted. There's this impression that Reyes is injury prone but it's not very reality based. Sure, he missed much of 2009, but even 2010 -- which is considered an "injury" season -- he had 560 ABs. And from 2005-2008, he played over 150 games each season.
