Healthier-NBA or NHL?
I was watching ESPNU this morning and they were going over attendance figures with both leagues and surprisingly the NHL is doing alot better at the gate-especially when it comes to sellouts.
The NBA has alot more weaker franchises than the NHL. Plus David Stern has mentioned contraction where that doesn't seem to be that problem in the NHL. Sure it has weak franchises(NY Islanders,Atlanta,Phoenix).
The NBA's regular season seems so anti-climatic with most of the playoff berths already clinched with plenty of non-competitive teams playing non-competitive games. On the other hand with the NHL,the weak sisters of the poor(namely New Jersey,NY Islanders and Toronto) have been playing well of late and most of the games in the NHL are competitive with fewer blowout games.
Despite the NBAs better tv ratings -I'm going too say that the NHL is healthier with room to grow. If it had strong franchises in New York(Long Island),Phoenix and Atlanta, the league would grow by leaps and bounds.
