If the Steelers win SB XLV, should they be considered a dynasty?

No.

The Cowboys appeared in five SB's in the 1970's winning two and were never seen as a dynasty.

The Bills appeared in 4 consecutive SB's in the 1990's but won none of them and have never been considered a dynasty.

Teams are only seen as dynasty's in the NFL if they win consecutive NFL championships/SB.

Thus in the SB era the only dynasties have been the Packers who won the first AFL/NFL World Championship Game and SBII, the next year, The Dolphins who won SB's VII &VIII, the Steelers who won SB's IX, X & XIII, XIV, the 49ers who won SB's XXIII XIV, the Cowboys who won SB's XXVII XXVIII the Broncos who won SB's XXXII XXXIII and the Patriots who won SB's XXXVIII XXXIX.

Now if the Steelers win SB XLV XLVI then they will be a dynasty, but not now.

Discuss.

I think 3 in 6 years is more impressive than just back to back.

It's too objective. There's not true definition of a "dynasty". Speaking as a die-hard Steelers fan, I would not consider the last 6 years a "dynasty". They have missed the playoffs entirely at least a couple of times during that span.

Re: If the Steelers win SB XLV, should they be considered a dynasty?

Personally I consider the Bills of the early 1990's to be a dynasty for going to 4 straight SB's even if they never won one.

As for winning 3 in 6 years being more impressive, the Steelers of the 2000's haven't done that yet, and "society" and the pundits seemingly only consider a team to be a dynasty if they win titles in consectutive years.

Yeah. I would call them a dynasty. Nobody else has won more than 1 during that period too and only the Colts have appeared in the SB at least twice.

No it's not and they missed the playoffs each year after making the Super Bowl. It's not they lost a Super Bowl or AFC championship game during the years they didn't win it.

There are really people who consider back-to-back Super Bowl wins to be a dynasty? Like Elway's last 2 Bronco teams?

If the Bills are a dynasty, are the Eagles a dynasty?

Absolutely not.

The Eagles didn't lose 4 straight Super Bowls....the very definition of a dynasty.

If by rape you mean, "rapes NFL defenses", then you'd be right.

correct me if I am wrong, but didnt the Steelers miss the playoffs the next year after each of their recent Super Bowl wins. Not a dynasty to me. not dominant enough. They are close but their QB rapes too much.

J/K

Not me. I'm more impressed with a team who can make a deep playoff run year after year after year, winning a championship here and there, than a team who has 2 excellent years but that's it.

I'm being completely biased, but I'd probably consider the 90s (Holmgren) Packers a dynasty before the 90s Broncos.

Do you consider Manning's Colts a Dynasty?

The key there is making deep runs in the playoffs and winning a championship here and there. Winning one championship will never equal a dynasty. As Ron Wolf once said the 90's Packers are just another fart in the wind.

I agree, I didn't say I think the 90s Packers were a dynasty, just that they meet more of my personal criteria than the Broncos of the 90s.

Not in my opinion...I think 2 championships during the era in question are generally a requirement. Manning and his Colts have accomplished about the same Favre and the Packers did in the 90s.

I think you need to win back to back to be a dynasty. They are the team of the 2000's though. Team of the decade.
