Re: MLB 2010-11 Offseason & Hot Stove Thread
Adam Dunn finally gets a chance to do what he was born to do....be a DH.
As far as free agents, Dunn has to be the one guy out there who is a sure thing. That is, you know exactly what you're getting. 4 straight seasons of 40 home runs followed by 2 straight years of 38 long balls. In 5 of those seasons, he's driven in between 100 and 106 runs.

don't forget the K's! and BB's, too, though.

I started to mention the consistency in those categories as well, but then noticed something really odd. After always drawing 100+ walks for nearly his whole career, Dunn only received 77 of them last year. And he set a career high in Ks (199). Any Washington fans want to chime in to admit that you're a fan of the Nats and to explain what happened to Dunn last year to cause his BBs/Ks to vary so much?

maybe he had nobody to protect him in the lineup so they went after him more often.

He may be consistent but I am not fan of the Dunn deal at all. I know Williams has had a hard on for Dunn for a while so I shouldn't be surprised they signed him. I don't like spending that much for an NL bat attached to a lousy 1st baseman. They talk about him maybe playing the outfield - I don't see that being much better for him.
They freed up a lot of money by non-tendering Jenks, but we have a lot of work to do to rebuild the bullpen and if they still want to take a stab at Konerko or Pierzynski I don't see what they're going to have left to pay guys like Putz or any other free agent pitchers.

Scroll down to near the bottom of the article. Most strikeouts, first 10 seasons in baseball history. Look at the lead Dunn has.

White Sox also re-signed Pierzynski for 2 years/8 million
I'd be surprised if Carlos Quentin is still on this team come opening day and I wouldn't be shocked to see one of the starters moved (My guess would be Gavin Floyd)

I being a White Sox fan am not happy. The money you wasted in signing Dunn & A.J you could have saved that money and go after Prince Fielder or Albert Pulhos next year.

I'm actually surprised at how hard it's hit me. Just brought in a rush of memories and emotion. Hell I'm only 30 and never saw the guy actually play, but that's how much he meant to the fans and the organization.

I don't live in Chi-town but I am a long time Cubs fan and always listened to Cubs game on the radio when they broadcast them here in Indy and I will definitely miss Santo. He was so funny on the air even though it wasn't the norm. He loved the Cubs and wanted them to win so much. RIP Ronnie.

Good post by Neyer about why Santo probably isn't in the HoF yet.
