Why not forgo Burnett instead of Sabathia? Then, they'd have Santana, Sabathia, Pettitte, Chamberlin

They could have gotten Trevor Hoffman or someone for the 7th or 8th inning.

I agree with the not getting Sabathia point though.
Not a Mets fan but when Santana was out in the market, I predicted where ever he goes, he is gonna have arm problem from the amount of innings he pitched in Minnesota. Look at his velocity, it's not the same.

Just a hunch, but I don't see Burnett going past the 3rd tomorrow.

Because Santana's contract + a Sabathia contract would be too high (yeah, unheard of for the Yanks)

It can be argued that Santana has been one of the 2 or 3 best in the NL the last few years.

Look at his production, he's been terrific. He was never a power pitcher.

Thanks for clarifying you aren't a Mets fan BTW.

This baseball game has actually been exciting. Way to go, boring sport.

It seems that the Yankees have been using 6-7 pitchers every playoff game

It's come to a crawl the last two innings with the "Girardi rules".

I thought the Yankees had an incredible bullpen that would be their key to the series.

To be fair, that bullpen can't help until they are in Philly and get the opportunity to score some runs.

Re: Yankees VS Phillies Official WS Thread

I don't think this game could have gone any better for the Phillies.

They had the longer layoff after the NLCS and came back and played a sharp game.

They hit the Yankees bullpen pretty hard, and scored 4 runs against it. The Yankees used a lot of their relief pitchers, so if that continues they will burn out their bullpen further into the series. And Utley and Howard got to see the lefty relievers that will be used against them basically for free tonight. The more looks they get at them the better for them.

This has to be a big confidence booster for the Phillies, even if the Yankees score here in the bottom of the ninth.

How many of those double play throws are the Phillies going to throw away in this playoff year? That is what the third one so far.

lee's era went up to .83 after that run, so I guess it wasn't an un-earned run.
