No one mentioned the incredibly dirty hit on Crosby yesterday. Hopefully Downie is suspended for a while because that was certainly an attempt to injury on his part.

Steve Downie? Cheapshot? What a surprise. Now there's a guy that should simply be kicked out of the league. It still amazes me he hasn't been absolutely destroyed and sent to the hospital for the shit he's pulled in his career. The guy was too cheap for the Flyers to keep, for Christsake!

Looks like we're all in agreement then. Players like Downie have no business in the league. There's not even grey area with that hit, it was a clear attempt to injure.
I'd like to hear from a Tampa fan on this (if they exist). I think I'd be embarrassed to have a guy like him on my team.

Just in time for the playoffs:
DIRECTV and Comcast have reached an agreement to return VERSUS to the DIRECTV programming lineup today.

Figured he'd get 2 or 3, any more than that and people would be screaming. I love how people are trying to defend it saying he only shoved him...well I've got news for ya, when somebody is off balance, you can get more force into a shove than you can a body check.
Also sounds like Campbell is probably done for the entire season, not just regular season.

I absolutely loved when Carkner pounded Downie earlier this season. There's only a few people I'd like to see put of the league permanently by injury; Cooke, Kaleta, and Downie.

I've watched the hit a number of times, and agree with your assessment. Campbell definitely could have protected himself better, with the speed of the play and the strength of Ovechkin, it was a bang bang play so it's not automatic. I think that there should have been a penalty, but not a suspension. I've gotten on Ovechkin about some of his dirty play, but this one just doesn't belong in the same category to me.

Why does Jarko Ruutu never get called out for this shit? He is one of the dirtiest players in the league.

I completely agree with Cooke and Downie, but why do you include Kaleta? He is the type of guy who agitates opposing players but doesn't intentionally try to injure someone with a hit.

He also doesn't go around looking to hurt guys though.
I have a problem with Kaleta because he does look to injure guys. He leaves his feet on a lot of checks and goes headhunting. His turtling act has grown quite tiresome as well.

Ugh, Sharks playing lousy lately. :/
Edit: Sheesh, and it's gotten worse. It's like that Blackhawks game from earlier this season.

You might like that last one though

It's too bad Chris Simon didn't take his foot off when he stomped him...
I will say that Kaleta does leave his skates rarely but you have to when you're that small.

The Devils sure owned the Pens this season, sweeping the season series 6-0 and outscoring the Pens 22-5. I hope they don't meet in the playoffs.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread
Another game, another cheap shot takes out a Hawks defenseman. Former Hawk Wisniewski takes a run at Seabrook for payback on a hit to Perry, problem is Seabrook never had the puck. Bob McKenzie put it much better than I could:
"Wisniewski's hit on Seabrook may be the Grand Slam: Charging, Interference, Boarding and pre-meditated malice (payback for a hit on Perry)."
Hope Seabs is ok, he definitely took a shot on the noggin'. They obviously can't afford to lose another Dman.

That was just an absolute bullshit game from the refs tonight. No major on the Seabrook hit, calling the puck out when it wasn't, no call on Sopel getting mugged...I'm shocked the reviewed goal wasn't waved off too. So second straight game we lose a player and don't even have a W to show for it.

The hit on Seabrook:

So do you guys think Cooke will be man enough to drop the gloves tonight and just be done with it?

I think the Bruins are going to have to force the issue. Lucic, Chara, or Thornton should just grab him and pound away.
As for the hit on Seabrook, Wisniewski has always been a bitch with his elbows. You can look up his hit on Doan, a full forearm/elbow right to the chin. Doan pounded him later on in the game.
