Fuck David Ortiz. What a lying, cheating hypocrite. I don't even know exactly what to say. Just disgusted.

Re: MLB Friday July 31, 2009

Rumors that the Red Sox are close to dealing Bucholz for Martinez while sending LaRoche to a 3rd team, with prospects going everywhere. I don't like that deal for the Sox, though I guess it depends on if they are getting anything back as well.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4368061

Twins are apparently close to landing Cabrera from Oakland. Of all the deals they were rumored to be in, that's about my least favorite, they better not give up much for a non-elite rent-a-player.

I wouldn't deal Bucholz. Although a switch hitting catcher who can play 1B is inticing.

Rosenfels is now saying the Indians aren't expecting to deal, but who knows. Sox involved with the Padres and Jays still. Should be tons of last minute speculation today. *I sure hope you guys don't get Gonzalez.

If they are intent on shipping out Clay, I would take Roy in return. I don't think trading a pitcher for a bat is the best move right now. From my perspective Smoltz is terrible, Penny is not good, and Dice K is a HUGE question mark. If they trade Clay for a bat, or rotation is going to be horrible.

I agree. The problem I have with trading Buchholz for Halladay is that Halladay can demand a trade at the end of the season if he's traded. So the Sox could end up with with nothing and Buchholz in Toronto and Halladay in NY.

Trade deadline day is exciting, though.

6:45am: Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden of the New York Daily News say the Red Sox are in "full pursuit" of Gonzalez, and believe Boston could get Heath Bell too if they're willing to include pitcher Daniel Bard. Also, Sean McAdam of the Boston Herald confirms that the Red Sox are more interested in Gonzalez than Victor Martinez.

Re: MLB Friday July 31, 2009

Tim Kurkjian just said on Mike and Mike that the Jays would get the same value in the off-season because that's when many big players are traded...like Johan Santana. lol

Philly fans, how would you feel about giving up the earlier discussed deal to get Halladay? 2 years with Halladay Hamels and Lee.

Pretty much how I feel, contrary to the "popular" opinion that all Boston fans are apologists.

I wonder what gives people that idea? Could be the curtain call he got yesterday after this news broke.

Remember that most of those fans were likely there before the news broke.

That was pathetic. Completely embarrassing as far as I'm concerned.

They had to have known. And even if they didnt, a curtain call is uncalled for in the 7th inning. IMO

And how does he not know what he tested positive for? Was he taking so much shit he can't figure it out? He should have the balls to come up and say "Here is exactly what I took and when I took it."

David Ortiz 54 Home Runs in 06
Brady Anderson 50 Home Runs...in 96

Anyone can hit 50 Home Runs.......

A lot of players have been doing Roids for years .....

I was on the phone with a season ticket holder during the 3rd inning and she didn't know .....I think a lot of people might not have heard the news.

Re: MLB Friday July 31, 2009

It could be very easy for these players to not know what they tested positive for, because they hire these idiot "personal trainers" who fill them with so much crap and they are apparently to dumb to question it... Fact is players, just like the public are still woefully uneducated about steroids, hgh, and what they can and can't do.

I think its probably fair to say the Ortiz wasnt using HGH, and if he was, he sure as hell wasnt using it correctly.

Re: MLB Friday July 31, 2009

So apparently on the White Sox postgame they said Jenks wasn't even at the ballpark last night, which might explain why Thorton pitched the 9th. Interesting.

EDIT: Apparently he was at home nursing a kidney stone according to the Sun-Times.

I was actually surprised that Ortiz led Sportscenter last night and not the breaking news that sports fans are often inconsistent in their criticisms of players depending on the team they play for.

Tigers get Washburn. grrrr.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9...e-ace-Washburn
The Tigers have agreed to acquire left-hander Jarrod Washburn from the Mariners in exchange for Luke French and another prospect, a major-league source has told FOXSports.com.

But surely that can't be extended to the self-proclaimed "most knowledgeable sports fans on the planet" can it?

Isn't it the "nation" that is always trying to convince the rest of the world that they are not your average sports fan?

Or is that just a bunch of bullshit?

I've never tried to convince anyone of anything, so I'm not sure where you're coming from. There are plenty of us who point out that Sox fans can be nasty and stupid like any team's fans, and have picked up plenty of obnoxious bandwagoners. The only regard I hold the rest of the "nation" in is that they root for the same team I do.

And for the record, I share chris's view on this Ortiz situation.

I appreciate the need to belabor the point that Red Sox fans gave Arod, Giambi, etc. hell but didn't do the same to Ortiz. But I don't think many of us here can help you relish in that. You should totally go for it though.
