Nice start by the Twins, too bad Liriano is on the mound. He'd be wise to walk Pujols every AB today.

Re: MLB Sunday May 28, 2009

Wanted to enjoy a nice Sunday baseball game, when I hear the TBS announcers say "You could make a case that Brian McCann is the best catcher in baseball..." Yeah, if you are drunk off your ass! OK maybe it's just temporary insanity and a case of announcers talking up the players in the game they are calling then in the next AB comes..."who you would rather start your team with?"

They concede Mauer has a better average, but talk about other offensive #'s over the last 3 years (because of course this year even in fewer at bats, Mauer has significantly more HR's and RBI's). There is also no mention about the ability to throw base stealers.

Weird, every time Mauer/Morneau have been up today the guys before them have reached on errors. And now two of them have turned into GIDP

Re: MLB Sunday May 28, 2009

Getting picked off with Mauer at the plate for the 3rd out.

For as praised as the Twins are for "playing the right way," they sure are all kinds of suck when it comes to running the bases.

Steve Stone is usually pretty even-keeled, but he is really going off on Zambrano today

Re: MLB Sunday May 28, 2009

The base running in general are off this year. Also some things that we used to do right we are struggling with like for example Gomez say what you want but he could at least get a bunt single once in awhile and use his speed to his advantage but this year he isn't which is what's making his suck that much worse.

i rarely watch more than an inning or two anymore. i've decided there's no reason to since it'll likely cause an early death for myself.

Re: MLB Sunday May 28, 2009

Gotta love Joe Girardi:

1 out, runner on 2nd... Starting pitcher has thrown 85 pitches, gone 5.1IP, 4 hits (1 infield), 2 runs allowed... better get him out of there! There really was only 1 or 2 balls hit hard the whole night, Wang had only 3 flyball outs why not let him go deeper into the game?

It seems as if no one really wants to win the NL Central this year.

Re: MLB Sunday May 28, 2009

Ya just have to laugh at the Mets. They bring in KRod and they screw up another 9th inning pop up against the Yankees. They they intentionally walk Jeter to face Rivera who has TWO career at bats, only to WALK him. How do you walk a relief pitcher with two career at bats, and with the bases loaded?

They really do find new and unique ways to f' up games.

Rivera picks up his 500th save and first RBI in the same game.

You forgot to add that they actually started to pitch to Jeter, with Rivera on deck! What the heck were they thinking?!? K-Rod's first pitch to Jeter was a strike, before throwing 2 balls, and then deciding to intentionally walk him! Even Jeter had the "are they seriously going to pitch to me?" smirk on his face as he glanced back to the on-deck circle.

Also amusing was the Yankees having Cervelli move into the ondeck circle and have someone 'warming up' in the bullpen as if they might pinch hit for Rivera should Jeter get walked.

Also a beauty move by the Mets having their closer throw 38pitches in a game they are trailing in when they have a game tomorrow. After seeing this, perhaps I'm being a bit too hard on Girardi?

Good for him. Not too many years left for Mo and Yankee fans (myself included) have taken him for granted for the last 12 years. It's really going to hurt when he retires.

You know, until they sign Papelbon.

Because it's 2009 and Z is still doing the same punk behavior he saw years ago when Stone was broadcasting Cub games.

Re: MLB Sunday May 28, 2009

FOR ANY PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES FANS:

I will post this later in the week in this daily thread. I want to take the family down to Citizens Bank Park on Sunday afternoon. I rarely go to afternoon games there, so I forget what are the best areas for shade? I am pretty sure the sun shines more on the first base line, and the 3rd base/left field line will be more shady during the afternoon game?

Anyone knows, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
