Masterson better be a card carrying member of the starting rotation now.

Look forward to the Cards getting a game in today. They haven't played since Saturday afternoon and it's beginning to feel like the All-Star break.

The rainout for the Yankees came at the perfect time. They'll be starting Pettitte today and skipping Wang's start against the Red Sox this weekend.

I'm hoping his ERA starts to climb towards that career average tonight. It's too bad Baker is back, it would have been fun to watch a Wakefield - R.A. Dickey showdown.

I went to Disneyland yesterday and as I was standing in line for a ride, who do I notice is a few places behind me, Miguel Cabrera. After looking on my phone and seeing the Tigers were in town playing the Angels, I proceeded to take paprazzi photos until my friend decided to go up to him and ask him for a picture. He didn't say much, but he smiled for the photo. Nice guy.

That is a neat story. I remember one time many years ago seeing who I thought was Rick Sutcliffe at the Louisville, KY airport. I told the guy I was with that I was sure that guy was Sutcliffe but couldn't figure out why he was in Louisville. Then it dawned on me minutes later that the Louisville AAA team was playing the Iowa Cubs and Sutcliffe was making an injury rehab appearance with Iowa.

Something like this happen to me a few years back at the Phoenix airport. I was eating at Burger King in the airport when I noticed Jose Valverde ordering a ton of food behind me. The Burger King cashier asked how many saves he had, and Valverde told him 40, so I wasn't the only one to recognize him. Then again, he was with Arizona at the time, so he probably expects to be recognized a little bit. It still is interesting to see these guys in street clothes with their families. If I knew Valverde was going to become an Astro, I would have asked his family to take a photo of us.

Random jersey question, what are the rules for team uni's? I noticed the other day that Delmon Young didn't have a number on the front of his uniform, but the rest of the Twins' did. Are they supposed to be consistent, or can they where whatever they want?

Re: MLB Tuesday April 21, 2009

The Natinals may be the most dysfunctional pro sports franchise of the last several decades.

Nats discipline Dukes for tardiness
Outfielder scratched from Saturday's start, fined $500
By Bill Ladson / MLB.com

WASHINGTON -- Nationals right fielder Elijah Dukes was scratched from Saturday's starting lineup against the Marlins and fined $500 for being five minutes late for work.
Dukes was late because he was signing autographs at a Little League function that was not sponsored by the Nationals.

Both acting general manager Mike Rizzo and manager Manny Acta made the decision to let Dukes sit out the game, and the outfielder was warned that if he was late again, he would be optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Dukes did enter the game in the eighth inning after Roger Bernadina fractured his right leg. Dukes ended up going 0-for-2 in the game, dropping his batting average to .323.

"We are going to change the culture here, regardless of how well a guy is playing," Acta said. "It was a bizarre situation, because he was doing something that we encourage our players to do. He was out in the community doing something for some Little League program and he just showed up late for work.

"He was very remorseful about it. He felt bad, but we have to lay down the law. Regardless of who is out there, we are still losing ballgames. We have to change the culture somehow."

This is the second time Dukes was late for work since he joined the Nationals, the first coming on Aug. 2, 2008. Although he was scratched from the lineup that day, Dukes was able to get into the game in the sixth inning against the Reds, but he left after the eighth, hampered by a cramp in his right calf.

The Natinals just don't get it.

Re: MLB Tuesday April 21, 2009

and the Little League has come out and said they are going to pay his fine and add a dollar to it, as well. Class thing to do. I can understand why they fined him, as being late is ridiculous, but they should've swept this under the rug due to the nature of his tardiness.

Mets very sloppy play (offense - Beltran not sliding and defense - Murphy ) is giving another game away.

The Cards will take it. Nice to come away with a win after being down 4-0 and stop the losing streak at 2 games.
