And now a story about Mike Singletary:

Mike Singletary lost his debut as 49ers head coach, getting waxed by a Seattle team that entered the game with only one victory. Yet Singletary's post-game rant and his decision to send Vernon Davis to the showers was cheered from coast to coast, resonating with a nation of football fans tired of all the thugs, punks and bonus-baby divas in the NFL.

The whole story is even more bizarre.

At halftime of that game, Singletary called for the attention of his players. He then dropped his pants, turned around and pointed to his backside. He used this occasion and that visual to describe what happened to his team in the first half.

A NFL source inside the room confirmed the story with my radio partner, XTRA 910 football guru Mike Jurecki, and added that Singletary then addressed the team for 3-4 minutes with his pants around his ankles.

The 49ers trailed 20-3 at halftime. They would lose the game, 34-13.

So, the question in San Francisco becomes this: Does Samurai Mike's legendary intensity rally a football team or does the Crazy Man Act alienate a football team?

After all, old school only goes so far in the new world, especially with today's breed of pampered players.

Kind of an odd scheduling quirk ended - first time the Steelers have played (reg season) at Washington since 1988. Huge game. Win or lose, I'm glad the Skins have the bye after this game - since it is bound to be very physically draining.

Big, big game for the Jets this week. If they can steal a road game against the Bills they'll open the division right up. They also would have wiped out the sting of losing to Oakland and it would be a huge boost to the team.

....but I wouldn't put my money on them.

Let's go FINS!!!!!!!! A win this week gets us to .500 and the schedule gets very easy. Only thing is we don't do well against the weaker teams. But overall I'm very pleased with the direction of the team. Very soon order will be restored in the universe and the Fins will be divison leaders again!!!!!!!!!!

Vikings should start their annual 5-6 game winning streak just to make us fans feel like they have a chance.

Didn't the NFL injury report always come out Thursday-ish? I can never find it online.

Not the official injury report - just the DNP, LP listings. The traditional O/D/Q/P one doesn't come out until Friday evenings.

The Packers were about $4 million under the salary cap minimum coming into the season and had until Monday to get over it without being in violation.

Well, they certainly took care of that today:

The Green Bay Packers have announced that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has signed a long-term contract extension.

The extension locks Rodgers up through the 2014 season
, General Manager Ted Thompson said in the team’s statement.

“As we talked about in the past, we try to be proactive in our discussions with our current players and we felt like this was an appropriate time to try to come to an agreement with Aaron,” Thompson said. “We feel like this is good for the organization and the players, and we will continue this approach as we move forward.”

The 24-year-old Rodgers was the Packers’ first-round draft pick in 2005. After spending three seasons as Brett Favre’s backup, he has started all seven games this season and has a 98.8 passer rating.

the singletary thing is bullshit -- Walsh dropped his pants all the time in the locker room but in todays multi-media era, it gets much more publicity

Aw, man. I was hoping that Aaron Rodgers would leave town after this season and walk away holding big middle finger in the general direction of Packers fans and front office.

Thanks. I used to make FF moves based on some report that came out mid-week but who knows what that was.

Detroit should just forfeit the rest of their games. They should be banned from anymore Thanksgiving day games, No reason to stink up Turkey day for the nation anymore.

Rodgers got 6 yr / 65 million with 20 million guaranteed.

Money well spent.

Now all they have to do is show Greg Jennings some love too.

The Sportsline teaser was: Sanders signed to active roster". My first thought: Deion. Second: Barry. (Answer: Steve, by the Browns)
