Some random thoughts on Tito's pitching lineup...

Barring insufficient rest, I'd start Lester in game 1 (and games 4 and 7) as I consider him to be their best chance of earning a split in Tampa. Since Dice K only pitches 5-6 innings at most, their middle relief will be used. Also, who knows which Beckett will show up in game 2? I sense his injury has not healed 100%. He'll either be the high pitch count, multiple walk, couple of hits/runs pitcher like his last start against the Angels or the dominant shut-down pitcher we have seen in past postseason appearances. Though Wakefield is slated to start game 4, I wouldn't start him unless the Red Sox were up 3-0.

I sense Tito is gambling that the Red Sox will win at least one game in Tampa, whereby Lester comes in to get them up 3-0 or 2-1. If they come back to Boston down 0-2, then Lester comes in to save the series/season (and Wakefield would be scratched for game 4.)

If it were me, I would go Lester in game 1, Matsuzaka in game 2 and Beckett in game 3.

^On the flip side, I think Tampa should have Kazmir in Game 1,4,7 if they can make it happen. He's always pitched well against the Sox.

I say stupid Red Sox in 5. They'll steal one in Tampa and run the table at home. I've been wrong pretty much all postseason so I hope that trend continues.

This series could really go either way. These are two well matched teams. Neither team winning could be considered an upset.

I think the Sox in 5 too.

I think (and have no reason to think this) the Sox take both games in Tampa Bay. I also think Dice K is going to pitch a good game, and Beckett will be the Beckett of old.

Again I have nothing to point to this, just hopeful ha.

Dice-K with a no hitter (4 walks) through 6 innings, which is much better than I expected.

Same thing as when Lester came out after 7 the other night, 'cept Tito didn't want him out. Tito wants just one more out from his starter........

Great pitching by Matsuzaka, Masterson and Papelbon. It wasn't pretty, but I'll take a 2-0 shutout any day.

I swear Dice-K needs two guys on base, no outs and a 2-0 count on the batter before he can focus and settle into his rhythm.

Bay puts Boston up 2-0 in the top of the first, but Longoria comes back with a huge 2 run shot in the bottom of the first. That could turn the series around.

Beckett clearly doesn't have it going tonight, a recurring theme of late.

Beckett being shelled. He can't be 100% right.
