Well that's why it would be good for them to get to the semi's of the CL, fixture congestions

Rafa Benitez has signed a contract extension with Liverpool FC, keeping him at the club until 2014.
The Liverpool manager has extended his current deal, which took him to the end of next season, by a further four years.
"My heart is with Liverpool Football Club, so I'm delighted to sign this new deal," said Rafa. "I love the club, the fans and the city and with a club like this and supporters like this, I could never say no to staying. I always made clear I wanted to be here for a long time and when I complete my new contract it will mean I have spent over a decade in Liverpool.
"The club is greatly respected around the world due to its incredible history and tremendous heritage. It is my aim to uphold those values and help create a new chapter in our history.
"Throughout this process, I would like to thank the owners for their hard work in finalising the deal. All of us at the club want the same thing, which is to be successful by winning major trophies."

Hmmm.... Arsenal isn't really in contention any longer for the top 3 spots, but I like what I'm seeing above them in the table today. Plus, with Liverpool hosting Villa tomorrow, the Reds would probably like to take advantage of the situation, and help the Gunners out, with a win.
Meanwhile, in the 13th minute from St James Park...

Re: The 2008-09 English Premier League Thread
Arsenal still has dates with Manchester United and Chelsea, so while it may not be probable, it's not impossible that they can chip away and reach one of the top 3 spots. I was thrilled with today's outcomes. I couldn't believe my eyes at the awful handball and Rooney's tantrum at Craven Cottage. Wow. That could be something we look back on as a turning point of the season, or they could just come back next week even hungrier.

Now, if Arsenal *and* Villa could both catch/pass one of them, that'd be fun!

Re: The 2008-09 English Premier League Thread
Frankly, the difference between 3rd and 4th is immaterial when compared with the difference between 4th (Champions League) and 5th (UEFA Cup, or whatever it's called now). I'm more interested in remaining ahead of Villa than in catching one of the other three.

Damn. What Liverpool just did to Villa shouldn't be legal.
I feel really bad for Friedel. He's a good guy and didn't deserve that sending off.

But is it a little too late? It's definitely going to be an interesting run in to the end of the season that's for sure.
Felt bad for the red card on Friedel. You could tell by his actions that he had no intent on bringing Torres down and with 2 defenders covering I think a yellow card would have been the right call.
However, since it's a straight red, I don't think they can appeal the suspension which means that Friedel will miss his first games in over 180 consecutive fixtures.
