I think I'm going to start just DVRing the games and watching if they win

The pressure is on Laffey in Cleveland today, with 43 1/3 straight scoreless inning by their starters. (in two of his three starts he pitched 7 scoreless innings, so it could continue)

kennedy??? he is pitching tonight

It's expected that Edmonds will be in the lineup today against the Pads if he passes his physical.

Good luck on the North Side, #15.

I was pulling for him with the Padres. Unfortunately, I can't quite do the same with the Cubs.

I love the boneheaded comment by the Cubs GM as it relates to Edmonds joining the Cubs: "There is really no negative in it." Sure, Hendry, inserting an outfielder batting .178 and already suspected of being on the downside of his career should have a guaranteed postive effect on the Cubbies.

How'd that seeing @BAL on the schedule turn out for the Sox?

While I'm not really a fan of Hendry, he is actually correct in his statement. It's not really surprising that a Cards fan can't see it. ;)

Here is the full quote from Hendry, ""There's no negatives in it," Hendry said. "You're not giving up players, you're not spending a lot of dollars."

The Cubs sent down Pie who is struggling and needs to play regularly in order to get better. That wasn’t going to happen with the Cubs since they were using him as a platoon player. Now he’ll be able to play every day and hopefully improve. Edmonds will not be the everyday Centerfielder as he also will platoon with Johnson.
On the money front the Cubs are only paying a prorated Major League minimum to take a look at Edmonds while the Cards are paying him 2 million dollars. That sounds good to me, they get to see if there is anything left in the tank while the Cards are footing the majority of the bill.

After a taking a look, if Edmonds hasn’t improved, the Cubs can cut him and bring back up Pie if he is ready. After looking at all sides I think Hendry is correct in saying, ”There's no negatives in it…”

Ryan Braun signed an 8 year $45 million dollar deal with the Brew Crew. Eight years? :whofart:

Very nice synopsis!

With the Cub offense clicking the way it has been, Edmonds will see a lot of good pitches to hit when he's in the lineup. I'd also think the course of the season thus far for Edmonds must have had a humbling effect, which could translate into a another positive veteran influence in the locker room. If he shows nothing but the suck, however, bye bye Jimmy...

At any rate, I don't think the team really loses anything right now with this move (somewhat improved offense vs. somewhat weakened outfield defense). Pie, on the other hand, gets to play every day and will also be working full time with Minor League hitting instructor Dave Keller. I suspect that by the end of the summer Pie will either have worked his way back to the Show or be on his way out of the organization.

Jimmy Edmonds hitting 6th for the Cubs today against the team that released him last Friday...

Damnit, Ballgame grounded into a double-play in his second at-bat.

Good deal for the Brewers. Too bad they can't play him at DH.

I understand the Cubs not giving up players or alot of money to bring Edmonds in. Putting aside my Cards hat for a moment, I just look at it this way. The Cubs sent down Pie who was batting .222 with a .571 OPS (in 63 ABs) and replaced him with Edmonds who in 90 ABs is hitting .178 with a .498 OPS. Edmonds has thus far proven to be a lesser offensive player (with less upside might I add because of his age)

The 2 million dollars the Cards spent to get Edmonds contract off the books was a great investment. Especially since that money also got a declining player off the roster, opening up space for guys like Schumaker and Ludwick. Now that the Cards are "paying" Edmonds to play for their rivals, and assuming he continues at his .178/.498 clip, this move really pays off for the Cards. ;)

Having said all that, Edmonds might have a little left in the tank and I'll end up with egg on my face. Honestly, I'm surprised Jimmy signed with the Cubs to play a part-time role. He wanted no part of that with the Cards which is the reason he was traded in the first place.

Izzy sucks so much ass.

And fuck TLR for bringing him in the eighth.

I agree. Dump his sorry ass please. He is the reason we aren't in first place right now.

Kennedy just gave up a home run in the first inning to the first batter with the second pitch..

The Twins have really been playing ugly this series and it is costing them.

Nice day for Ryan Dempster in Chicago!

8.1 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, and a career high 12 Ks!

He's now 5-1 with a 2.35 ERA.

(NOTE: Thanks to Wood for keeping the shutout intact after coming in with 2 runners on and only 1 out in the 9th)

The Cards & Brewers both lose and the Astros are currently losing. Looks to be a great day in the NL Central!

Edmonds has thus far proven to be a lesser offensive player (with less upside might I add because of his age)

Pie needed to be sent down regardless, and the Cubs have been wanting to add another left-handed bat anyway.

Edmonds might not work out at all and be gone before the all-star break. In which case, little investment lost. If Edmonds does shine in his part-time role, however, brilliant move by Hendry, eh?

As I pointed out previously, the slightly weakened outfield defense should be compensated by slightly improved offense. Edmonds won't get any more playing time than Pie was getting if his production continues as it did in San Diego. Pie was only getting every 4th or 5th start. Therefore, a crappy hitting Edmonds shouldn't get a lot of opportunities to be a crappy fielding Edmonds.

Edmonds should see a lot of good pitches after being inserted in the high-powered Cub offense, especially coming in as the weakest link other than the pitcher (unless Big Z is on the hill). It shouldn't take long to determine if there's anything left in Jimmy's tank.

I would be amazed if Edmonds doesn't improve on those numbers! My guess would be somewhere in the .260/.750 area. Nothing too exciting, but it will be enough to help the Cub offense keep chugging along until Pie or someone else is ready to take the spot.

He's probably more accepting of the part-time role idea now after the course his career has taken, especially since the trade. Big dose of reality! Mayhap he's smart enough to to have realized that playing every day is simply no longer in his Cards...
