He's going to take another easy fight, probably Rubio, before he thinks about Abraham, at least from what has been rumored. He did do what he was supposed to do, but there was no post Jermain letdown and he looked REALLY good and sharp, even against an opponent who was designed to make him look good.

Who is this Arthur Abraham?

Oh, nevermind. Miranda just has no chin.

Miranda's way of fighting is totally predictable- sloppy technique and just watch out for the straight rights and call it a night. His camp got him far by matching him with guys he'd bully, but once he encountered fighters with good technique and savvy, its been downhill.

Sadly thats going to be the case for his entire career. Because trainers made him depend solely on his power, he just wasn't given the proper fundamentals early on to be competative with well-rounded (and smart) fighters.

Can't afford the PPV tonight.

Everybody's talking about how spectacular the welterweight division is, but check out this lightweight schedule:
Diaz/Katsidis
Casamayor/Marquez
Campbell/Guzman

When someone asked me how I thought Pacquiao-Diaz would go down. Only thing I said was, "Uhhh, I think Pacquiao's speed is going to be a problem for Diaz." I had no idea it would be that much of a problem. And, when it the hell did Pac get a right hand? Jeeez.

Holy shit. One of the most brutal KO's I've ever seen. I thought for a second Torres might have been dead. I haven't seen someone out THAT cold in a long, long time.

eh, for anyone that gives a shit, during the all game, they've been hyping a fight between Hasim Rahman and James Toney for the heavyweight title on fox sports net tonight wed at 11pm. I don't follow boxing that closely but i assume that this isn't for one of the major heavyweight titles right?

Oscar Diaz has surgery to relieve swelling of the brain following his collapse while fighting last night.

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...ory?id=3492875

Scary stuff last night on Wed Night Fights. Hope this isnt another boxing tragedy.

As far as that article and the video news link contained with it- Diaz was not receiving corner advice when he collapsed. He was being attended to by the ringside doctor, in a stupor, then he suddenly wailed and crumbled. I didnt think the fight was becoming so one-sided as to stop it. Despite a swollen eye, Diaz was still moving his feet, firing back regularly, and blocking okay, losing the fight for sure, but I saw nothing to indicate his corner or the ref should have halted the bout sooner.

Pavlik moving up to fight Hopkins
3 hours, 14 minutes ago

ATLANTIC CITY (TICKER) —Unable to find a suitable challenger to his middleweight title, Kelly Pavlik will move up in weight and face former light heavyweight and middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins, according to multiple sources.

The non-title fight will be held at a catchweight of 170 pounds, just under the light-heavyweight limit, and will take place October 18 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

In his last fight, Pavlik (34-0, 30 KOs) demolished Welshman Gary Lockett in three lopsided rounds in his first title defense on June 7. The Youngstown, Ohio native defeated Jermain Taylor on September 29, 2007 to claim the WBC, and WBO middleweight belts.

After defeating Lockett, Pavlik was linked to possible fights with Joe Calzaghe, Sergio Mora, Paul Williams and Winky Wright, but none panned out.

That left Pavlik to turn to the 43-year-old Hopkins (48-5-1, 32 KOs), who lost the light heavyweight title to Calzaghe on a split decision on April 19.

Hopkins lost the undisputed middleweight title to Taylor on July 16, 2005, via split decision. Later that year in December, Hopkins lost his rematch against Taylor by unanimous decision.

He moved up to light heavyweight and defeated Antonio Tarver and Wright before falling to Calzaghe.
I don't believe this will be PPV.

^ Ugh, I hate to say it, but this shows why boxing is in such dire straights. No one makes notice of the actual prospects in roughly half the divisions. Instead, they rely on weight class jumping and matching up with older, barely relevant *names* to make a main event match, hence Pacquio (and everyone else) wanting to fight De La Hoya, Calzaghe-Jones Jr, and now Pavlik-Hopkins.

Thank god for the likes of Cotto-Margarito. I want to see men in the same weight class who are in their primes fighting each other, not this other smoke and mirrors stuff.

This will be the first PPV I'll be buying since de la Hoya vs Mayorga 2 years ago.

I don't remember what the last PPV I got, but it's certainly been awhile. Terrific Main Event for this one. I'm seriously going back & forth on deciding a winner for this battle.

And I just read that if Pavlik fights Hopkins it WILL be on HBO PPV.

No way in hell I pay for that one. I would never pay to see Hopkins fight. Not an exciting fighter, never has been never will be.

Injured Calzaghe calls off Jones fight
2 hours, 7 minutes ago

LONDON (AP)—Joe Calzaghe postponed his proposed fight against Roy Jones Jr. because of an injured right hand.

The 36-year-old Calzaghe, who is unbeaten in 45 professional fights during a 15-year career, injured his hand Sunday in training, his lawyer told The Associated Press. Calzaghe relinquished his WBC super-middleweight title to fight Jones.

“He rang me in a panic saying he would not be ready to fight,” Gareth Williams said Tuesday.

Calzaghe planned to see a hand specialist. Williams insisted the light-heavyweight fight will go ahead later in the year.

Williams said he would seek a venue for the bout, and planned to speak to HBO officials about scheduling a date.
I wasn't getting this fight, so no problems.

Yup. Entertaining shoot-out. Too bad the decision tarnished the fight.

Margarito has more deficiencies- he's a slow starter, not that fast, and if you have good footwork you'll give him fits. But he does have a great work rate and is very tenacious (even in, for instance, his loss to Paul Williams, Margarito put together some good offense in the latter rounds). He's a live dog.

I'd say the biggest missive for Cotto, who appears to be the better fighter, is that his two most recent, applauded wins were over Mosley and Judah. Good vets to have on your record, sure, but way past their primes. I mean, Judah's been losing to every decent fighter he's faced and Mosely's best wins of recent years were a (in hindsight) clearly washed-up Fernando Vargas. At least Margarito doesn't have that same level of wear, so it should be an interesting, and I think more substantial, fight.

The new & improved Margarito has vowed to start much faster (And since the Williams fight, this method has appeared to help) the only question is if his strength/stamina doesn't diminish in the late rounds--Which was always his strongest area.

I'm still undecided on this one. Let the countdown begin..
