2007 - 2008 NBA Regular Season Discussion

Regular season kicks off tomorrow, so I suppose we're ready for the main thread.

Season opens with Spurs/Trailblazers at 5 PST/8 EST followed by the Lakers/Rockets on TNT.

What do you guys think? And early championship predictions? Think your team will suck? Let's get it on!

NBA.com has a pretty cool calender.

I think it boils down to which team is the healthiest down the final stretch. I'll be rooting for the Nuggets to finally make it out of the first round on the playoffs. I still feel like the champion will come from the West... Spurs, Mavs, Rockets. The Jazz and the Nuggets could surprise some folk too, or just suck.

Let's start the season with a great interview to Sam Cassell:

Hoping for a world series repeat, Denver and Boston.

Unlikely to happen...

I hope Baron Davis lasts through the season and the Warriors make the 2nd round at least

While I think the Spurs are likely to repeat, I would bet that Detroit gives them a run for their money and beats them in 7.

Tim Duncan signs a 2-year extension

Assuming that Duncan retires after the extension, which would be the 2011-2012 season, he'll be in the Hall of Fame in 2017. Unanimous?

Duncan left $11 million on the table so he could have an improved supporting cast.

Very nice on his side. It was also a very nice way to set up the offer. They offered Duncan the max, but made their case as to why it would be more beneficial for the team to do the extension for less.

Spurs are the team to beat again, but if the Suns can stay healthy and keep their cool I still think they have what it takes to win it all. Duncan will get his as always, but the key will be slowing down Parker and Ginobili.

Tim Duncan would be unanimous if he retired today.

Agreed. I am not a fan of the Spurs but it is hard not to like Duncan. Class act all the way.

First NBA season I'll be following more than just at a glance (since the Celtics finally have a competitive team). Watching them for the most part since the era of the Bias/Lewis deaths & Byrd/McHale/Parrish retirements has not been a lot of fun.

Portland's going to have problems with big teams all year long. I do like what I'm seeing out of Aldridge, Outlaw, and Webster, though.

They sure are calling a lot of ticky-tack shit on the Rockets in the 4th quarter.
