Kwame wouldn't be terrible resigned for a more reasonable 4-5 million a year. With Mihm's constant issues, we don't have another backup center. I'm worried about Bynum slowing down as the season goes on.

No big man these days would get that little. Chris Mihm received 2.5 per year after missing a whole year and guys like Adonal Foyle and Erik Dampier make 10.

that's kinda my point what is the going price for a guy who has hands of stone and doesn't contribute anything from the bench.

Kwame is worth the mid-level exception, because some team out there will be offering it to him. And, at that price, the Lakers should re-sign him. If you really think he's that bad, consider the alternatives. Kwame actually is a good finisher (I know...when he could catch the ball around the basket), good defender, and good rebounder.

Yeah yeah it's easy to say now you didn't want to trade Bynum but I think a lot of Laker fans were willing to trade him and someone else this offseason for JO. Today we would never do that, so what a difference 6 months makes.

Kwame needs to be dealt this season w/ his expiring contract. I hate him as much as all of you but that being said he is a great defender against the big centers like Yao, D Howard etc. With his body and physical play, he is a great asset to have on defense. However when it comes to rebounding, passing, shooting, catching we all know he is awful and obviously that can cause problems . Someone will pick him up for $4-5 mil since players his size are always needed. If we can get a solid backup C, or if Mihm can come back to how he was before (doubtful) we should be fine in that regard.

I like a package of Kwame, Farmar and Sasha for something decent. It'd be real tough to see Farmar go as he is a great player, but with his stock so high and J Critt behind him, we truly can have a solid lineup if we get something good in return. Not sure who that player is however...

Also, seems like Kupchak hate is at a 3-year low?

Lakers crush a hot Hornets team

They've crushed the last few, but those were poor-average teams. Nice to see them continue to pile it on against quality ones too.

Stephen A Smith, Kenny Smith, and Bill Walton are all on the Lakers bandwagon. SAS and Walton have picked the Lakers over Spurs for the WC.

Charles Barkley does not believe the Lakers are for real yet.

Whenever I miss a Lakers game, I check the box score and the first thing I look for is Bynum's numbers.

He's playing very well this year, I hope it's not a fluke.

Kobe had a quote saying something like it's part of the game, and it is, they just have to play through it. Bynum will most definitey miss a few games, and Kwame has to step it up to keep up the Lakers pace. They won't be as good as they were but they might be able to play at a .500 clip or so.

nba.com has the Lakers as the #1 team in the league right now.

They're playing well, but I don't see how they are #1. Some early reports have Bynum out 4-8 weeks.

Agent: Bynum to miss 8 weeks with knee injury
ESPN.com news services

Updated: January 14, 2008, 4:03 PM ET

Andrew Bynum, a key factor in the Los Angeles Lakers' 25-11 start to the season, will miss eight weeks with what his agent says is a subluxation of his left kneecap.

David Lee told ESPN The Magazine's Sam Alipour that Bynum will not need surgery. Bynum, who had an MRI on Monday, will begin rehabiliation immediately, Lee said.

"He's already focusing on his rehab," Lee said Monday.

Bynum injured his knee early in the third quarter of Sunday night's 100-99 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. A subluxation occurs when the kneecap is pulled toward the outside of the knee.

"It was pretty scary because it felt like my knee twisted all around. Luckily I'm all right," Bynum, who was wearing a heavy brace after the game, told The Los Angeles Times.

"I didn't hear any pops. I'm able to put weight on it and it doesn't really hurt. Just when I bend it, it hurts."

Sam Alipour is a contributing writer to ESPN The Magazine

With Kwame in the middle, well, there goes our season!

Let's see - Vujacic (no biggie), Mihm (this hurts now), Radmanovich, and now Bynum...and that's with Kwame just coming back from his injury.

So Turiaf is now the backup center....looks like a very short rotation with no one backing up Odom anymore:

PG: Fisher -- Farmar/Critt?
SG: Kobe -- Carl/Vujacic
C: Kwame -- Turiaf
PF: Odom -- ???? (Rad when back form injury)
SF: Walton -- Ariza

Time to trade a SG for a PF.
