Yes we should beat crappy teams but we were very close to losing to THE KNICKS last night AT HOME. Sorry to kill your buzz but we'll be lucky to get 3 wins...and don't forget these teams really get "up" to play Kobe and the Lakers. The fans come to see him play once a year and each game is real big for the home team.

@Detroit - Probably a Loss - WE NEVER WIN THERE, WON'T WIN THIS YEAR
@Toronto - Should be close, can go either way. - AGREE, GOOD TEAM WILL BE TOUGH
@Washington - Should be close, can go either way. - SAME AS ABOVE
@New Jersey - Should be able to win, but might be close. - TOSS UP
@Atlanta - Should be able to win. - TOSS UP
@Orlando - Probably a Loss. - DEFINITELY A LOSS
@Miami - Should be a win. - IF WE DON'T WIN THIS...
@Charlotte - Should be a win. - AGREE
@Minnesota - Should be a win. - AGREE

Lakers lose to the Pistons on a last second 3 pointer. Kobe had 11 turnovers. 3-5 now without Bynum.

Lamar Odom is to blame for at least 5 of the Lakers losses this year. Maybe more. I stopped counting.

I don't understand why Odom keeps thinking he's an outside shooter. Those are the flattest, frozen rope 3's. Hell, I put more arch on my shot.

I cringe everytime he put's up an outside shot. He's 6' 10" and should be playing on the inside, especially with those long arms of his.

If it was for a lack of big men due to Bynum and Mihm's injuries, i'd definitely be ready to trade Lamar right now. He'll have a monster game once a week or so, but other then that he just seems to out of it. It sucks to see the Lakers blow a chance at an upset to start their road trip.

ESPNEWS breaking news ticket says "Report: Pau Gasol for K. Brown trade" but they haven't actually talked about this yet. I can't believe it.

Wow, and we thought Kupchak was worthless!

Gasol will be awesome filling in for Bynum while he's out, and that's a monster lineup when Bynum comes back from injury. On paper, that should put the Lakers up against any of the top teams out there.

Ric Bucher on ESPN is saying that Bynum may actually be out longer than the projected 8 weeks. Hopefully the team has time to gel before the playoffs when he eventually does come back.

As far as tonight, it doesn't appear that the Lakers have resigned Mbenga to another 10-day contract. Does that mean Turiaf is the only guy that can play center against Toronto? We're going to see some interesting line ups tonight.

Sources: Grizz sending Gasol to Lakers for Brown
ESPN.com news services

Updated: February 1, 2008, 4:27 PM ET

The Memphis Grizzlies will send Pau Gasol and a future second-round pick to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, the unofficially retired Aaron McKie , the draft rights to Pau Gasol's brother Marc and future first-round picks in 2008 and 2010, NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

It is believed that the Lakers would need to arrange a sign-and-trade for McKie to make the salary cap math work for the deal. McKie is not currently playing in the NBA but his rights are owned by the Lakers.

According to The Commercial Appeal of Memphis, which also reported the trade, the Grizzlies decided to move ahead with trading Gasol because the team felt it could no longer move ahead with him off or on the court -- and that the acquisition of Brown, who is earning $9,075,000 in the last year of his contract, would provide the franchise salary cap relief.

The Commercial Appeal also reported that the Grizzlies are trading Stromile Swift to the New Jersey Nets for center Jason Collins. The Grizzlies and Nets have been discussing that deal for the past week and expect to finalize it on Monday, according to the report.

Swift met with Grizzlies coach Marc Iavaroni and general manager Chris Wallace on Friday, was sent home and did not practice with the team and will not play in Saturday's game against Utah, the newspaper reported.

Marc Stein is a senior writer for ESPN.com.
Wow, it seems the Grizzlies really wanted, Aaron McKie Javaris Crittenton, to get this deal done.

Javaris may be a great guard in the future, but we have a lot of guards right now and not enough 'good' big men.

Lakers trade Kwame Brown for Grizzlies' Gasol

Robert Gauthier/Los Angeles Times

By Mike Bresnahan, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
1:30 PM PST, February 1, 2008

The Lakers have acquired forward-center Pau Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies for center Kwame Brown and guard Javaris Crittenton.

The Lakers sent their first-round draft picks in 2008 and 2010, and received the Grizzlies' second-round pick in 2010.

The Lakers also sent the rights to their 2007 second-round pick Marc Gasol, as well as guard Aaron McKie who played 10 games for the Lakers last season and wasn't under contract until Friday. Marc is Pau's brother and McKie was signed to make the salary exchange more equitable.

"We're extremely pleased to make this trade," Lakers General Manger Mitch Kupchak said in a statement. "Pau is a proven player of All-Star caliber in this league who can score and rebound and he's still a young player. We feel this move strengthens our team in the short term as well as the long term."

Gasol, 27, is averaging 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds this season for the Grizzlies. He has expressed discontent in the past year with the Grizzlies (13-33) who have not been in playoffs since 2006 and have never won a playoff game since he was drafted in 2001.

He was the NBA's rookie of the year in 2001-02 and made the All-Star team in 2006.

Gasol has three more years and an estimated $49 million on his contract. Brown's $9.1-million contract expires after this season and Crittenton is a rookie.

Gasol would fill in at center until Andrew Bynum returns from a knee injury sometime in March. Gasol could then slide over to power forward when Bynum returns.

I'm shocked Gasol got traded for so little. He's a pretty good player (even with no defense) and it's not like his salary is that bad. Great pick-up for the Lakers to get him for a bundle of crap.

Deal of the last few years. We essentially got Pau for Caron Butler now...not bad.

My only concern is Gasol and Bynum playing together. Can it work? They both like to work on the same spots on the floor. Other than that - I'll all for it.

Maybe this will make Odom's life a little easier too. He won't have to do things he's uncomfortable with.

Yeah, with 2 true big men in the middle he'll settle for more outside shots.

In reality, if used well inside the triangle, Odom should be bringing up the ball now and playing point-forward with Fish as the spot up shooter behind Kobe. And Luke can be his back up. And this works also with Sasha starting to get his groove on during the game instead of just practices.

When I saw the NBA.com story when I got home (before I'd even heard about this trade), I was really hoping it was a trade for Odom....but I'll take the Kwame trade.

I think the shorts have officially been creamed. WTG Mitch! He just pulled a fast one over on the Grizz.
