Ouch, 8 weeks, about 30 games.

Man oh man. Could've been worse but still.

Having Bynum out for 2 months stinks! He's definitely the NBA's most improved player this season and I think he could have raised his scoring average to at least 15 PPG.

I fucking hate Kwame. He's simply one of the worst 7 footers in the history of the NBA. I can't wait until his 9M contract expires at the end of this season and they get his ass out of LA.

Personally I'd rather start Mihm over Kwame and use Turiaf as the backup.

well now we get to see what it'd be like if they traded Bynum or let him loose.

Maybe Kwame will surprise and actually play well. If he doesn't take shots and rebounds and learns to pass, the Lakers might have a chance.

Amen!

This really blows losing AB for 2 months. We went from possibly looking at a #1-3 seed to realistically being 4-6 come play-off time.

Lakers are now the top team in the Western Conference. Tied with the Suns, but for now we're ahead since we have the two wins on them.

Great game (drama-wise) and Kobe came through huge. You can see how tough it's gonna be with Andrew out, we shoulda blown these guys out if he was there

Bynum will be back before the playoffs, providing the Lakers don't tank while he's gone

LAKERS REPORT
Lakers searching for a big man

With Andrew Bynum out eight weeks, team considers such free agents as Chris Webber, P.J. Brown and DJ Mbenga.

By Mike Bresnahan
Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

January 15, 2008

SEATTLE -- What next?

Now that their franchise-center-in-training will be taking at least an eight-week break, the Lakers are perilously thin in the middle.

Kwame Brown has started 178 games in his seven-year career, and newly anointed backup Ronny Turiaf is more of a power forward.

In an update provided by a team source, Chris Mihm is at least two weeks from returning, if not longer, from a sore right Achilles tendon.

Thus, the Lakers are sifting through the free-agent bin and coming up with such names as Chris Webber, P.J. Brown and DJ Mbenga.

The Lakers were intrigued by Webber a year ago and have been in contact with his representatives. They think he fits the mold of a triangle-offense player -- good passer, good jump shot -- but are concerned about his physical condition.

Webber, who will be 35 in March, has not played since last season. He averaged 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 29.9 minutes in 61 games with Philadelphia and Detroit, but did not re-sign with the Pistons after their playoff run.

He has been contacted by other unspecified teams and will make up his mind this week, his agent said.

"We've talked to the Lakers organization several times prior to Andrew's unfortunate injury," said Webber's agent, Aaron Goodwin. "Obviously, they're a much better team with Andrew playing than they are without him. I think [Webber] will make a decision where he's going to play this week."

Unlike last season, a starting spot is not a prerequisite for Webber, Goodwin said.

"He wants to fit in," Goodwin said. "That's not an issue."

Goodwin also said Webber was in shape and would be "ready to go."

Brown, 38, retired last season and has remained that way despite being contacted by numerous NBA teams, including Phoenix.

Brown averaged 6.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 20.2 minutes in 72 games last season for Chicago. In 2005-06, he averaged nine points and 7.3 rebounds a game for New Orleans.

Mbenga, a 7-footer waived by Golden State last week, averaged 1.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in 16 games for the Warriors. Before that, Mbenga, 27, spent three seasons with Dallas.

After leading the league in popularity last season, Kobe Bryant's jersey has fallen to No. 2 in sales behind Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett, according to the NBA.

In addition, the Lakers fell to No. 2 behind the top-selling Celtics in overall merchandise sales, according to holiday-season sales at NBA.com and at the NBA team store in New York.

Denver guard Allen Iverson has the third-most popular jersey and Cleveland forward LeBron James is fourth.

Vladimir Radmanovic (sprained right ankle) and Sasha Vujacic (sprained left ankle and back spasms) did not accompany the team to Seattle for Monday's game, although Radmanovic was expected to return to practice this week, Jackson said.

Radmanovic has missed seven consecutive games.

Interesting, I didn't realize that Chris Webber wasn't playing for the Pistons anymore. I guess he would be a no brainer and a great backup when Bynum does get back.

I take back everything I said about Kwame being a decent defender. He got destroyed by fucking Nick Collison? Sigh.

He just looks lost out there. His body language shows that he is not comfortable playing out there.

I'm sure this is his last season with the Lakers, if he makes it to the end.

The Lakers wouldn't have any money to pay Webber except the NBA minimum or maybe $1M at most.

Maybe he's at the point in his life where playing for a championship is more important than money.

Considering Webber is still unemployed and 35, you would think he would be willing to take a massive pay cut to play for a winner.

To think we gave up Caron Butler for this guy. Now I know Caron doesn't fit on this team but that's the best we could have got for him?

Kwame had to be good at some point. Didn't Jordan see some kind of potential in him or did he always suck?

Personally I would rather have Caron's 12-15 PPG over that turd Kwame who's useless.

Don't know what the hell Michael Jordan saw in him.

Hindsight is great, but I always thought we should keep Caron Butler. There had to have been a way to keep him in the lineup and benefit from his production.

Looking back it seems like it might have been better to give up Odom then Butler.

Suns lose so Lakers are in sole possession of 1st heading in to their match up Thursday. My hopes aren't too high, but it should be fun to see.

This is pretty ugly. Kwame's been terrible and getting booed, and Luke has been terrible in the paint. Yikes

Well the Lakers certainly managed to make things interesting at the end. Glad they didn't just lay down and die considering the way they were playing at the start of the 2nd half. One or two more of those 3's by Kobe or Sasha go in and those last 3-4 minutes could have turned out far differently.

Sucks to lose, and see Kwame struggle when they needed him to step up. But it didn't feel as bad as it could have.
