I hadn't watched ATH in about 3 years and caught it on vacation last week... OMG do the regulars look OLD. Cowlishaw and the dude from Boston looked like they each aged 10 years.

MNF needs to be revamped.

The crane shot of Booger McFarland offering on field analysis is ridiculous.

and Witten is a bad fit as the lead analyst.

The MNF crew is coming back.

No!!!!!

Why does every network hire a Cowboy and put them in the broadcast booth?

You can hear Booger give insightful quotes like this

"Stats are like bikinis. They show some things, but not all things."

At least it's not Gruden. Who thought every player was great.

... until they were on his active roster. And actually were great.

I think Whiten is terrible. But I kind of like McFarland. So rarely do we get color commentary from a recent defensive player. I like that insight sometimes. And I think he's gotten better lately.

NFL Game Pass and TuneIn Premium both offer Westwood One's radio broadcast of MNF thus you don't have to listen to the less than stellar ESPN coverage.

Re: Is It Just Me, Or Has ESPN Been Going Down Hill?

While that is true, it doesn't sync up perfectly with the game and usually runs 1 or 2 plays behind the video feed. At least it does on my phone. That's how I used to have to watch the game on Monday Nights in the gym. I was glad that they're actually showing the game on the Watch ESPN app this season.
Do they still have the segment every week where Jim Gray felatiates Tom Brady while the GOAT inarticulately says absolutely nothing then tells Jim it's his bedtime now? I don't miss hearing that.

Re: Is It Just Me, Or Has ESPN Been Going Down Hill?

If Booger was as good doing MNF as he was on ESPN radio I suspect far more people would enjoy his contributions. Including me. But given those radio spots were realtively short, and on specific topics, I suspect the issue with Booger is he just isn't a good fit for doing a full game with the inability to focus topics he had clearly prepared for ahead of time.

I think MLB.TV is the only streaming service that links audio feed with the video feed, however I enjoy the game just as much because of the difference in time.

Not to derail anything, but honestly people who are big baseball fans will likely just tune into MLB Network for nightly baseball news.

Agreed. ESPN punted nightly baseball coverage to MLB network and I doubt they will be able to get that audience back.

I really don't understand what the fuck ESPN is doing. With so many channels, why can't they have Baseball Tonight on any of them on a daily basis? I'll also put the blame a little on MLB too, as they have made their free agent season the most boring in all sports.

They do it to cut expensive on-air talent and for demographics. ESPN has been ruthlessly going after younger and younger viewers, to the detriment of almost everything else. MLB pulls in an older demographic spread out across the country, anathema to the current ESPN business model. If you are over 34 and/or live outside one of the top ten metro areas, you don't matter to ESPN. I believe it's why ESPN has become a dumpster fire, but ymmv.

A bit of interesting side news to this is that ESPN fired Baseball Tonight host Adnan Virk for supposedly leaking information.

He was probably a confidential source to some media reporter and leaked news within the channel like employee, policy changes or programming changes that wasn't made public yet. Every media reporter has these "confidential sources" Otherwise all TV and Movie news would never be reported.

My favorite Booger quote: "They just need to keep matriculating the ball down the field."

Um, I guess you don't know that is a famous Hank Stram line immortalized by NFL Films in the early 70s

Re: Is It Just Me, Or Has ESPN Been Going Down Hill?

Really interesting podcast on the Bill Simmons Podcast today with former ESPN President John Skipper -- who famously suspended him for bad-mouthing Roger Goodell. Lots of behind the scenes stuff and Skipper is very candid about ESPN and his career.

ESPN Classic only shows college football in SD (No HD)?

I guess they would probably have to pay a fortune to license NFL, MLB, and NBA games.

I believe they didn't renew the licenses for NFL, MLB and NBA games after cable and satellite companies dropped the channels. I also believe that in the case of at least NFL and NBA, the leagues decided to not renew the rights as they show those classic games in their own networks during the offseason. I imagine MLB has followed suit.
