It's only a rumor, but 1wrestling.com reports that the "family emergency" that Benoit had to fly home to attend to was that his wife and child were vomiting blood. I don't know what kind of virus could cause something that severe and cause death also, though.

Death
On June 25, 2007, Benoit and his family were found dead in their home in Atlanta. It was first reported to fans of the WWE via WWE Mobile. There are no exact details are known about this death at this time. [2] Through their website, World Wrestling Entertainment also released the following statement[82]:

"World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that today Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home. There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.
Tonight’s Raw on USA Network will serve as a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family. WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family’s relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy."

PW Headlines stated that Benoit called in to WWE Sunday and said he would be unable to make it back as his family was ill and they were spitting up blood. [83]

WWE cancelled the scheduled live Raw show scheduled for June 25, and will be airing a non-live tribute to Benoit in its place.[84]

Found this on Wikipedia. Spitting up blood? Hmm, dont know what to think of that. I would guess murder/suicide?

Pro wrestler, family found dead in Fayetteville home

By Saeed Ahmed, Kathy Jefcoats
The Atlanta-Journal Constitution
Published on: 06/25/07

A professional wrestler and his family were found dead inside their house in Fayette County Monday afternoon.

Authorities confirmed that Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy and their 7-year-old son were found dead at the home on Quarters and Redwine roads in Fayetteville about 4 p.m.

Officials would not say how the family died, other than to say they weren't shot to death.

Benoit, 30, was a Canadian wrestler who most recently fought as part of the World Wrestling Entertainment.

The organization said on its Web site said that Monday night's broadcast of "Raw" on the USA Network will "serve as a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family."

Wait... they canceled the live Raw show instead of going on like they have before whenever they have had a death before hand, including Owen's? Wow...

Will any of you be able to watch the ending of WrestleMania XX now?

I don't think I can. It was hard enough after Eddie died. Now..this.

Wikipedia isn't a legit news source. ANYONE can write to and update the pages.

I havent followed wrestling since WCW was bought out by WWE, but I always had respect for Chris, he always put on one hell of a show, just watched his dvd set a couple weeks ago too... remember the first appearance of "Woman" back in the days of the NWA I believe it was way back then... this is so sad, the whole family

First, the WWE loses Vince McMahon.

Now, they lose the Crippler.

What a tragic couple of weeks.

Wasn't the WWE going to have a memorial show in McMahon's honor tonight?

Why would they do that if he wasn't dead?

UPDATE ON DEATH OF CHRIS BENOIT FAMILY; ONE CAUSE OF DEATH RULED OUT
By: Bob Ryder
6/25/2007 8:10:23 PM

Local Atlanta media is beginning to cover the news that Chris Benoit and his family were found dead today. AJC.com reports that police found the bodies at around 4pm local time and that police would not say how the family died other than they were not shot to death.

Sources tell 1Wrestling.com that police were dispatched to the Benoit home after receiving a call from WWE officials who were concerned that they were not able to get in touch with Benoit.

Vince McMahon opened tonight's RAW broadcast standing in the ring in an empty arena. McMahon explained that tonight was scheduled as a show centered around the presumed death of the "Mr McMahon" character, but with the tragic news of this afternoon the show would now be a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family.

Vince came out of his storyline to announce this on RAW.

(on a side note, there is something wrong with Vince, he looks and sounds like shit)

This is very very sad and shows how tasteless the whole death of Vince bullshit was. As many real guys that have died in the business should have told them not to even try an angle like that.

I didn't even know he was married to Woman, but I remember her as his valet in WCW.

I tuned into Raw just to see a few minutes of what they were doing with the whole fake "Death" angle for Vince, and found out about a real death. I literally dropped my remote and jaw when I heard what had happened from JR and Lawler. The fact that it was his whole family makes it all the more terrible and tragic.

Benoit was the best all around athletic wrestler they had, bar none. The WWE really needs to re-examine itself now, no matter how the cause of his death might turn out. RIP Chris.

FWIW, I am more certain now than ever that I will NEVER sell my WM XX DVD. It will probably be the best way to remember both Benoit and Guererro. Two friends, together at the top of the world for one night. As Guesswho said, they are together again in heaven.

He looked to me just like he had been crying most of the day and was just torn apart emotionally. It seemed like he was doing all he could to pull himself together for those few minutes.

I hadn't heard until I saw the RIP notice to begin Raw. My wife came running into the room because she heard me shout, "WHAT THE FUCK?!?"

Seriously shook up right now.

I think that Vince realizes how fucked up the whole death angle was, storyline or not. Its a shame that someone had to die for him to understand this.
