Re: Play a game with me. Hall of Famer or not?
This Vince Carter talk led me down a Rasheed-Jamison-Stackhouse rabbit hole. UNC was cranking out some great players, and I’d forgotten how long their NBA careers lasted.

Is Matty Ice a Hall of Famer?
He has better stats than Eli though zero rings but should have gotten one in Super Bowl 51
He does not get the best pass protection but still finds ways to produce.

Without looking up stats but just on gut feel, no. Better stats than Eli doesn't cut it, I don't think Eli gets in with just one SB/MVP either.

Matt Ryan is already 10th in passing yards in NFL History, and if he just had average/median statistics for a QB 4-5 more seasons he might go top 3-5.

Oh he can definitely get there, I just don't think he's a lock right now, especially with inflated numbers in the current era.

Maybe not first ballot but guys who finish top 5-10 in stat accumilation and skill positions always get in (see tim brown, curtis martin, jerome bettis).

Was thinking about Doc Rivers chances
He could end up in the top 5 or so all time in wins as an NBA coach and is also a former Nba championship winning head coach. But man if he doesn't get a 2nd title with the Clippers in the next 2 seasons I feel his legacy will be akin more to like the Marty Schottenheimer of the NBA where he is known for teams imploding in the Playoffs and melting down in scenario's where it looks like they were gonna win

He'll get in as a coach. He's currently #11 all-time and has a Championship. Bill Fitch is in with literally one more win and 425 more losses.

Zero chance Doc Rivers doesn't get in.

Nominations for 2021 Basketball Hall of Fame induction announced.
First-time Hall of Fame nominees include Michael Cooper, Doug Collins, Howard Garfinkel, Lou Henson, Yolanda Griffith, Val Ackerman, Lauren Jackson and Paul Pierce. Returning nominees include Chauncey Billups, Chris Bosh, Richard Hamilton, Chris Webber, Bob Huggins, Sue Bird, Swin Cash, Ben Wallace, and Jay Wright.
I’ve mentioned here how stunning I find it that Chris Webber isn’t in yet. Here is a Bill Simmons summary of his career. Lots of injuries and missed opportunities but I still think he was Hall-worth.

I'm surprised that Webber and Bosh aren't in yet. And Pierce should be in too now.

The only reason that Bosh isn't in was that last year, his first of eligibility he was up against a historic class of Kobe, Tim Duncan and KG. Even so he should have gone in but if not for three Top 20-25 All-time players, he would have easily.

I think many in the basketball establishment still blame Webber for the mass exodus of players leaving college early. It was primarily him and the Fab Five team that put the final nail in the coffin of superstar NCAA players sticking around. Webber was certainly a Hall of Fame player that had an NBA championship stolen from him by crooked officiating.

Re: Play a game with me. Hall of Famer or not?
There is no question Webber should be in. Even if they blame the Fab Five entirely on him, he's still not blacklisted from the NBA (secretly or not) or anything, so it's really surprising to me he's not already in.
Caveat is I'm a huge Webber fan from the Bullets days.

Michael Cooper is the first guy I ever associated with “3 and D” even if it wasn’t a thing back then. Not sure that’s Hall-worthy, but he certainly was a key cog on many great teams.

If you put in Cooper for being an elite wing defender when the 80s was more post driven offense then Iggy,Teyshaun Prince,Bruce Bowen will certainly be more worthy of going in since that skill was more valuable in the 200's when their were more elite wing scorers.

The knock on Webber was that people expected him to be a top 10 player ever due to his set of skills. Yes, he underachieved and was injured in parts of his career, but he made Sacramento the team it was, something that Mitch Richmond never could. He also played between the Jordan era and the Kobe/Shaq/Duncan one, and all those teams had better personnel all around. And like Phantom mentioned above, their year was stolen by a crooked ref.

As a Michigan alum, I still haven't forgiven Steve Fisher and the Fab Five for destroying our program with the cheating scandal.
