The Eagles are usually a despised team in some circles, but I'm wondering if anyone outside of the Eagles fanbase will be rooting for them this weekend.

Time for that wonderful Saints story to end though.

- pts mean that they need to win by more than that #.

For instance, if San Diego won 21-16...they would have covered the -4.5, since they won by 5pts. By the same token, a team (the underdog) could be given +4.5 pts, and if they lose 20-17......you'd win, because they were 'given' 4.5 pts.

Got it...I've only ever heard it stated as, "so-and-so by x pts".

Thanks.

Saints and Da Bears.

The AFC's too close to call...Indy did show up with a strong D last weekend, they were able to hold LJ to less than 40yds....as far as SD's concerned, I'm not wondering if Schottenheimer's horrendous post-season record is gonna be a mind-fuck on his players, that, and Belichick is probably THE best coach in the NFL.

Another n00b question...where did you find these numbers? It's usually hit or miss with me and my local paper...and I'm not a professional gambler.

There are only about a zillion gambling and gambling info sites on the internet. But if you want one that just has numbers and information, try vegasinsider.com

Anyone able to find me, in the last 10 years (or however long), how many teams in the divisional playoffs have covered the spread when coming off the first-round bye?

I'm also new to sports betting. So if I placed a bet on the Bears, and they only won by a field goal and not the 8.5 pts they are favored by, I'd still lose whatever money I bet?

Yep.

To further clarify, you're betting one team's score plus-or-minus some points will be higher than the other team's score. If you bet on "Bears -8.5", you are betting that the points the Bears score minus 8.5 will be greater than the points the Seahawks score, hence the "-". If you bet "Seahawks +8.5", you're betting that the points the Seahawks score plus 8.5 will be greater than the points the Bears score. People use a lot of terminology, like "giving points" or "covering the spread", etc, but you're essentially betting one side of a simple math equation. Bears - 8.5 > Seahawks or Seahawks + 8.5 > Bears.

PSA: Sports betting is serious business. Be careful.

Considering they have yet to play a game, I wouldn't expect a change.

Come on, it's not like someone ever got their knee caps bashed in for betting. Nothing like that ever happens.
