What the fuck is happening to our world...

(I know, nothing new and there will be more to the story/motivation, but this shit still pisses me off)

For the benefit of those who don't click the link, UM = University of Miami (FL).

Violent crime involving a Miami player? Shocking!

Grow the fuck up. This has nothing to do with the school. A kid was shot and killed. Have some class.

Agreed. I'm one of the "haters", as it were... but this isn't something to say crap like that about. By all accounts, Pata was one of the good ones. Didn't even drink. Was never in trouble. Just senseless, as was said.

So you think this was a random act of violence?

Pata likely was involved with someone from the wrong crowd and pissed them off.

Says who?

Miami's a fucked up place. Way too many random shootings here. One of the reasons I can't wait to leave. But it's pretty shitty to assume that about a kid who has zero history of getting into trouble.

there was a guy on our hs football team that was killed because he was dealing drugs. only his closest friends knew what he was doing. not that it justified his death.

I can't really buy the random shooting angle but will give this guy the benefit of the doubt for now.

That is my thought at this time. I never buy the 'never did drugs, drank, arrested' crap.

I don't know the guy, but then again none of us do either, despite what the media reports.

Thus, usually the most common reason applies here, and it has nothing to do with the Univ. of Miami's sketchy history either. It's very rare in any city for people to be gunned down outside their home for absolutely 0 reason.

How interesting. Look at his slideshow. How many of us had pimped out $50k+ vehicles when we were in college?

Yeah, college is totally legit and there aren't boosters anywhere!

Marlin Barnes was killed a few years ago. Beaten to death because he happened to be friends with a girl who had just broken things off with her boyfriend. Wrong place, wrong time. Nothing to do with his character or the school.

Insensitive comment? Yeah, you're right, it was.

But given Miami's track record for thuggery and perpencity for violent crimes, it was likely the first thing that MANY people thought of when they read the headline. I'll take the hit for voicing that thought, but I believe it was a natural extention of the type of events and news that surrounds "The U" anymore.

Here some links for you guys to read since you know nothing about Bryan Pata yet seem to think you do by making stupid comments or suggesting something by posting a picture.

FYI, he was a gun collector and wanted to be an FBI agent after a try at the NFL. Nothing wrong with that and I would say isn't a reason to get shot in the back of the head

Also, his brother in law bought him the car when he couldn't afford one. Probably thinking that he would get paid back when he made the NFL. His draft stock was really high but has dropped because this year because his production wasn't as great.

And things happen at every University. Players get arrested, suspended, killed, etc. But over the last decade the University of Miami has had very little problems. Not more than most schools have had. Just because they show boat on the field sometimes is not a reason to lable a university thugs or say comments like that about a school when a kid was killed.

Agreeed...Having lived there and now in NYC, I would chose east NY or Jamaica Queens anyday over ever living in Miami again. Sad story and this is from someone who is anti-everything U of M.
