I'm going to the Saturday game to cheer on the Mets in St Louis.

2 met games I've seen in 10 years and Trachsel starts both of them. What kind of luck is that?

Alex Rodriguez's troubles remain prominent, so there should be no surprise that the manager he has most revered, Lou Piniella, would be the obvious front-runner to replace Joe Torre. The Yanks have a big investment in Rodriguez, remain unlikely to trade him and, to win it all, probably have to divine how to get the best of him.
-- New York Post

At his darkest moments, George Steinbrenner has longed in recent years to replace Joe Torre with Lou Piniella as the manager of the Yankees. The question now dominating the organization is whether that impulse will prevail after careful consideration. General Manager Brian Cashman was given more authority by Steinbrenner last fall, and Cashman said Saturday that he wanted Torre back.
-- New York Times

Lou Piniella isn't the only candidate if George Steinbrenner sticks to his guns. Don Mattingly, the Yankee hitting coach, would be in the mix. So would Joe Girardi.
-- New York Daily News

Organizational meetings are expected to begin for the Yankees as soon as tomorrow and, according to sources, every single part of the baseball operations arm of the team will be evaluated - players and staff.
-- New York Daily News

Twins center fielder Torii Hunter has a limited trade clause in his contract, but part of the reason the Twins are expected to pick up his $12 million contract for next year is that they might be able to trade him to a high payroll team if they did not get off to a good start.
-- St. Paul Pioneer Press

Is it time for the Reds to trade Adam Dunn? Probably. Houston salivates over the thought of having the hometown guy on their roster.
-- Dayton Daily News

Rich Aurilia and the Reds hold a $2 million mutual option for 2007, but in a phone interview from his Phoenix home Saturday he said is not sure he will exercise it. If so, he would become a free agent, with at least one eye gazing toward San Francisco.
-- San Francisco Chronicle

A person familiar with the situation said Braves hitting coach Terry Pendleton, who has three children ages 5, 14 and 16, would have to be "blown away" by any offer from the Nationals before he'd consider leaving Atlanta, where his family lives year-round.
-- Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The Rangers have been in contact with the agent for Lou Piniella. But hang on: That doesn't even mean Piniella's name came up in the conversation. General manager Jon Daniels on Sunday acknowledged recent conversations with agent Alan Nero, who represents numerous managers and coaches. The 66-year-old Joe Torre probably won't be on the Rangers' list.
-- Dallas Morning News

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry will get his first crack at interviewing candidates for the club's manager's position this week when he brings fired Florida manager Joe Girardi to town. Lou Piniella and Bob Brenly also are believed to be on Hendry's short list, though no interviews had been scheduled as of Friday.
-- Chicago Tribune

The Cubs are expected to make a decision on extending Aramis Ramirez's contract before he can exercise his opt-out clause and become a free agent two weeks after the World Series. Jim Hendry has said he intends to keep Ramirez, and Ramirez has said he wants to stay.
-- Chicago Tribune

Dodgers GM Ned Colletti wants to bring in a creditable power hitter to bolster a lineup last in the National League in home runs. He wants to add a front-of-the-rotation starter while also re-signing Greg Maddux. And he wants to bolster a bullpen that despite season-long additions and adjustments ultimately cost the Dodgers dearly against the Mets.
-- Los Angeles Times

The White Sox have to make a decision on the future of slumping left-hander Neal Cotts. According to one source within the organization, Cotts (1-2, 5.17 ERA) will be shopped this winter. That doesn't mean he will be moved, but they will see what the market value is for him.
-- Chicago Sun-Times

Barry Zito will start Game 1 for the A's on Tuesday evening, Esteban Loaiza will start Game 2 and, it strongly appears, Dan Haren will start Game 3. Oakland has not officially announced starters for Games 3 and 4, but indications from several team sources were that Rich Harden would go in Game 4.
-- San Francisco Chronicle

Look for the Yankees to pursue Japanese standout Daisuke Matsuzaka and at least one other front-line starter in the offseason. Top prospect Philip Hughes could be ready to debut by midseason.

No favorites left. Just glad the Yankees are gone and the Red Sox and Braves didn't make it. Just give me good, exciting down to the wire games. Wouldn't have a problem with any of these teams winning a title. The Tigers are obviously a team that you want to pull for considering they climbed out of the basement this year.

I'm very excited for this year's final four. I think we'll see some good baseball and that it's kind of nice that 4 solid teams are there and that the Yankees aren't so we don't have to listen to BuckCarver jerk themselves off over the Yankees any longer.

As if Buck jerking himself over the Cardinals is much better?

Let him jerk away - they have the longest Series drought of any team left in the final four.

Well, "homer" Buck picked the Cubs to win the division in '04, and then he picked the Astros to beat the Cardinals in the NLCS. I haven't heard him say anything about this year's NLCS, but I'm sure he's picking the Mets.

Go Mets!!

They are talking about them on PTI right now......so far I agree with everything they said, minus the.."what you'll get in this series is a lot of 9-8 games". I think the Met's pen won't give up those kind of runs.

There starters only need to go 6 innings, so hopefully they can hold the Cards to 3-4 runs...and they should be ok.

I think we all need to pitch in and buy Raven a Yankees jersey and customize it by putting a ... where the number normally is.

It's definitely not a pitching matchup that inspires confidence. And it looks like an injury will (again) prevent Rolen from contributing in the postseason. I'm having trouble imagining the Cards keeping up with the Mets when someone other than Carpenter is pitching. It's unfortunate that the Padres took the Cards to four games. *sigh* But hey, Weaver is 5-1 with a 3.62 ERA on the road since joining the Cardinals!!

Well now, it seems the ALCS is sure popular around here. Tigers take Game 1 on the road.

So does anyone here want to claim that Nate Robertson is a better pitcher than Johan Santana or are we ready to admit that sometimes a superior lineup can have a bad game against anyone...

Well, the Twins had a superior lineup in the Division Series, but the A's don't in the Championship Series. Oakland is anemic. If anything, Zito getting knocked out of the game tonight just makes the Twins look worse, don't you think?

Am I the only guy who thinks Pinella shouldn't ever be allowed in the booth again?
