Q about the Giants & Cardinals 161 games this season

I noticed that both the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals only completed 161 games. I am assuming that it was a postponement. Why are they not going to make the game up? As far as standings go, it really makes no difference. But as far as stats go, it does.

They would only have made it up if the Cards lost Sunday because it would affect playoff berths. Granted, it does cost people season stats. It was an afternoon game a while back and should've been moved to the evening but they just decided on postponing it. It would've given Albert Pujols a chance to hit 50 homers and Bonds to add to his total as well.

The game was canceled because the forecast indicated that rain would continue throughout the day.

When a game has no bearing on the final outcome of the season, it's too much of a logistical nightmare to bother with it. But, when it does have an effect on the season (as this one very well could have if STL had lost the Sunday game), they'll make it up.

STL did lose the game on Sunday. It was the Houston Astros loss to Atlanta that clinched it for the Cards.

It's kind of weird. MLB refuses to make teams play meaningless games yet the Royals still get to play 162 games.

Those last three Royal games weren't so irrelevant to the Tigers.

Didn't the Indians play two different teams at home on one day a few yrs ago-so they could have made the game up-they lose $$$ when they have to refund tickets thats why the Red Sox waited 3 and a half hours to play a meaningless game yesterday.

The Cardinals did not have a day off for the rest of the season. So I guess the Giants, while in between two home series, would have needed to travel to STL for a day game on Thursday? That seems pretty inconvenient.

Back in the 1960s the NBA had teams playing 6 games in 7 days in 6 different cities but today that would never happen.
