Yeah, but it was against KC's crappy bullpen. They give up almost as many runs as Boston's bullpen.

It was nice to see a Red Sox lineup with some familiar faces.

The best part was that I didn't watch much of the game at all and then turned it on in the top of the 8th inning. Man KC's bullpen sucks. I almost felt sorry for the kid that started the game. He looked pretty dejected in the dugout. Pitched 7 innings, left with a 5-1 lead. You wouldn't think it would be a blowout on the other side of things. The Yanks were losing throughout the majority of that game. Posada's HR was impressive since it came on a 1-2 count and went opposite field.

The Angels never did get that big bat, and so they figure to revive trade talks for Miguel Tejada this winter. They could give Tejada all spring to adjust to third base. "I know that, but I can still play good shortstop," he said. "I'm a shortstop, man. I don't think I have to play third base yet. Maybe later on."
-- Los Angeles Times

As the Angels cling to a faint hope of a third consecutive American League West championship, general manager Bill Stoneman has drawn criticism for his inability to acquire a player to supplement the offense. Although Angels owner Arte Moreno appreciates customer feedback, he continues to approve of the performance of Stoneman.
-- Los Angeles Times

Dodgers GM Ned Colletti says he would like to re-sign Greg Maddux, and Maddux said when he left Chicago he wouldn't rule out re-signing with the Cubs. That would be hard to believe now that he has had another taste of a pennant race and what seems like a nearly perfect baseball life.
-- Chicago Tribune

The Dodgers have succeeded in toptoeing around the future. Ned Colletti said he won't talk contract during the season with any of the Dodgers' seven potential free agents - Lugo, Nomar Garciaparra, Kenny Lofton, Ramon Martinez, and pitchers Greg Maddux, Aaron Sele and Eric Gagne.
-- Los Angeles Daily News

David Ortiz took batting practice for the first time since missing several games while being tested for an irregular heartbeat. He is expected to play tonight.
-- Boston Herald

Don't look for Mariano Rivera to return to action at least until Friday. Rivera, who is battling tightness in his right forearm, doesn't plan to play catch today and won't return to action until he throws off a bullpen mound.
-- New York Post

Mike Mussina will become a free agent once the club declines his $17-million 2007 option - which he expects them to do - and he reiterated his strong interest in staying with the Yankees.
-- Newsday

Huston Street made 30 pitches off the bullpen mound before Monday's game. He showed improvement over a previous bullpen session that was described as tentative. But there still appears to be some issues in terms of his readiness to resume his role as A's closer. He could be back with the team and available Friday in Tampa.
-- Oakland Tribune

If Aramis Ramirez exercises his opt-out clause in his contract, the Cubs will at least get an opportunity to see what Scott Moore can do. The Cubs say they believe Ramirez will stay, and may offer to guarantee his $11 million option year in 2009 to keep him from filing for free agency.
-- Chicago Tribune

Marlins manager Joe Girardi said Monday he planned to spend most of this morning in the hospital with his wife, Kim, who is scheduled to have labor induced today. Then, if everything goes smoothly, he will be at Dolphin Stadium in time to make out the lineup for tonight's game.
-- Miami Herald

Ken Griffey Jr. limped off the field Monday night after trying to prevent a game-tying home run by Barry Bonds in the eighth-inning at Great American Ball Park.

The Reds' center fielder dislocated the second toe on his right foot when he planted his right cleat into the padding that covers the wall trying to scale the wall and catch the home run ball. X-rays indicated no broken bones.
-- Cincinnati Enquirer

Rodrigo Lopez likely has pitched himself out of Baltimore's plans. The right-hander has had a mercurial career with the Orioles, and the team still could control him for one more season. But they likely will try to trade him early in the winter, and failing that, he's an excellent candidate to get released. If not, Baltimore would have to pay him close to $4 million.
-- MLB.com

Carlos Zambrano may have gone from Cy Young Award candidate to sayonara on Monday afternoon at Wrigley Field. The Cubs ace lasted 1 1/3 innings in a 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh, then said afterward a team physician told him he could be shut down for the rest of the season with a lower-back problem. Zambrano will have an MRI on Tuesday morning.
-- Chicago Tribune

Twins catcher Joe Mauer's family, which produced the QuickSwing batting training device, is negotiating a licensing deal with a California firm that also handles a batting training device for Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.
-- St. Paul Pioneer-Press

Pedro Martinez rejoined his teammates here yesterday after spending last week rehabbing his strained right calf in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He played a game of catch in the outfield for about 10 minutes and is scheduled to throw a full bullpen session today.
-- Newark Star-Ledger

Mike Sweeney fits as the Royals DH and captain. He's coming up on the final year of his contract at $11 million per annum. Despite hints at retirement when his back was keeping him out of 88 games, the best guess is that Sweeney will return.
-- MLB.com

Scott Podsednik's future on the South Side past this season has been cloudy for the last few months. But on Monday, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen made the outfielder's future over the remainder of this season a day-to-day question mark. Podsednik's season-long inconsistencies have now landed him in a platoon situation.
-- Chicago Sun-Times

The Marcus Giles heart-surgery scare was apparently a major false alarm, and the Braves' second baseman was cleared to return to the team after undergoing a battery of tests Sunday in Atlanta.
-- Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Garrett Atkins' hitting, as well as his more assured play at third, means the Rockies will explore transforming minor-league hotshot Ian Stewart from third base to the outfield.
-- Denver Post

Soup w/ another great performance, keeping up the pace he has set since the All-Star break.

I'm curious what AP's numbers would like if he hadn't missed three weeks.

Just hand Johan Santana the Cy Young Award, please.
