(*) - City moved up at least one place in the standings in the most recent update.

Ties are broken in favor of cities that have never won a championship, then by cities that have had the most time elapse since their last championship.

In the above, I lump teams that are in the same market together. Thus, the Giants, Jets, Devils, Rangers, Islanders, Nets, Knicks, Yankees and Mets are all "New York". I consider the AFL to be an equivalent "major" league from 1960-65 since they had their own championship prior to playing the NFL champion in what would become the SuperBowl following the 1966 season. Also, I show AFL/NFL champions in the year the season was played, regardless of whether the championship occurred in December or January of the following year. Currently, the championships occur in this order: NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL; prior to the 2006, the NBA Finals occurred prior to the Stanley Cup.

The list does NOT include cities who have had major league teams in the past but who are sports-less today (like Fort Wayne, Rochester and Omaha). The list also lumps all of Canada together and treats it as one "city".

Re: Sports Futility

One day some other team besides the Patriots will win the AFC East.

Will it happen in 2040?

Re: Sports Futility

Updated the list though the last 3 Championships. For some reason it seems I had updated it for the Capitols but not for the Warriors who I believe clinched the next day, Anyway, now the long suffering Boston market may look upon this list and celebrate ending their 3 month drought.

If the Raptors had won in 5, then Canada's number would be 1 now.

Re: Sports Futility

The Bills should be #1 of all the teams that deserves a title the most.

Those 4 Super Bowl losses and the fans keep showing up with all the bad weather they get there and it has to happen soon before the owners decide to move the team.

If that happens I hope they don't win a title.

I hated the Bills in the 1990s as a Dolphins' fan and still would like to see them win one at some point. I can't imagine being a life-long Bills' fan. The most iconic player in franchise history became a national disgrace after killing two people, while also having the four straight Super Bowl losses on their record.

Re: Sports Futility

Is there something wrong with the numbers for San Diego?

The first post of the thread was updated in Feb. 2014, and San Diego had 110 losing seasons. Now, in June 2019, it has 113 losing seasons. How did it have only three losing seasons in five years?

Looks at posts 390 and 391.

Basically in 2017, B5Erik contested whether San Diego's count was accurate because San Diego was also the former host of the Clippers and Rockets too, neither of which were listed among the seasons being counted for San Diego. In my research on that though, my counts showed 53 seasons for the Chargers (post AFL title win), 48 for the Padres, 4 for the Clippers, and 6 for the Rockets, which would put the total at 111 seasons at that point (4 games lower than the original advancing total carried forward from the 110 which kenbuzz had left it at the last time he updated this list, which had reached 115 before it was contested by B5Erik). As such it was adjusted lower to 111 at that point, but I did add the credits as former homes of the Clippers and Rockets at that point.

If anyone can find any fault with my math, I'm open to arguments.
