Best Defensive player in the NFL?

I think Dwight Freeney is the premier defensive player in the NFL, biased as I am as a Ravens fan. He carries that defense more than Manning carries their offense. I couldn't make an argument for anyone not on my list, but I put 3 other choices to see how other breaks down.

Right now it's Ray Lewis, but if Ed Reed has another year like last year, then he will be the correct answer. Both UM products by the way .

I'd say Richard Seymour is a better D-lineman than Dwight Freeney. More versatile, more complete.

Best defensive player IMO is Chris McAllister because CB is the hardest position and he's by far the best at his job right now in the NFL.

I disagree on the first part, agree on the 2nd; McAllister would have been my 2nd choice.

Its hard to vote against Ray Lewis. I think he's still the most intimidating defensive player in the NFL.

However, as Quake said, Ed Reed is starting to become the man on that defense.

Also watch out for Jonathon Vilma of the Jets to sprout out in a few years and become a great middle linebacker.

And just like Quake said, all products of the U.

I can see the argument for Ray Lewis or Dwight Freeney in 2004... but in 2005, it's gonna be all Julius Peppers, baby.

Ray Lewis wasn't even the best defensive player ON HIS OWN TEAM last year...I voted for Ed Reed.

I'm not sure if Ray Lewis is still the best defense player in the NFL, but I don't know who else would overtake him for that honor. Of course, playing the high impact position on MLB, the closest equivalent to the QB position on defense, helps his impact. So I guess it's Ray.

Although Reed would be a great choice, the true vote goes to Lewis

You just CAN'T go wrong with anyone from the U! In a few years Sean Taylor (if he can stay out of jail) and Jonathan Vilma will be on one of these polls along with Lewis and Reed.

I voted for Keith Bulluck because I can't stand the fucking Ravens.

Ray Lewis has just been decent the last few seasons. His verbal skills certainly haven't diminished, only what he brings to the table. Teams are not afraid to run at him anymore. He's doesn't wrap up like he used to, and shedding Lewis has become much easier. Ed Reed is a much better choice, though I think his interception totals have clouded the overall picture (weak in single man coverage).

Me too. I dont think he needs to have 1 more solid year to justify being the best defensive players. He's had 3 solid ones. Each year he gets better.

Its hard to say with each position bringing so many different elements. Shaun Rogers (DT, Lions) is the most underrated defensive player in the league. My vote though goes to Peppers.

Not to mention DE James Hall, who deserves some of the adulation Rogers receives. Though you're right, he is somewhat underrated.

Kevin Williams would be my choice.

I'm going to take some artistic license and say Terrell Owens ... cuz that jackass is always on the defensive due to his immature asshole antics. He's on 24/7.

But truthfully, i'd probably vote for Julius Peppers.
