USA kicked out of Cricket Championships

LONDON -- The United States was tossed out of an international cricket tournament after an election dispute left the Americans unable to decide on a team.

The International Cricket Council on Monday replaced the United States with the Cayman Islands in the ICC Intercontinental Cup.

The action follows a March election at the U.S. Amateur Cricket Association in which two factions claimed leadership.

"We are not able to wait any longer, as it is necessary to finalize details of the competing teams," ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed said.

Regional qualifying in the Intercontinental Cup is Aug. 27-Sept. 2 in Toronto. The winner of a series featuring Bermuda, Canada and the Cayman Islands advances to the semifinals and final beginning Oct. 23 in Namibia.

The tournament is for countries just below the level of the world's 10 test-playing nations, led by Australia, England, India, Pakistan and South Africa.

In a letter to the USACA, Speed wrote: "The ICC has been extremely patient in seeking to enable the two parties to agree on a team. It is very disappointing for all concerned that you have not been able to agree on the final composition of the team."

The USACA says about 10,000 players -- primarily expatriates from south Asia and the Caribbean -- compete in weekend games in the United States, mostly in California, Florida and around East Coast cities.

apparently, we have two.

And I like how this tournament excludes all the good teams. It's like the NIT of cricket.

Man that sign generator site rules. Getting kicked out of Cricket was totally worth it to find out about that site.

Any Brits or Aussies here glued to the Ashes so far? The current series is definitely the most exciting test matchup in many years. The Aussies have dominated England in the past 16 years, but this time around, it's going to be a close contest. Series is now level 1-1 with a nailbiting two-run win by England at Birmingham last week. I wish I could afford the $200+ coverage by DirectTV.

I think England does best to shift to a club, taken by the ace; then the heart king is led to ruff out the ace. A spade is led to dummy’s jack and the heart queen is cashed to discard a club. Declarer continues with a club ruff; spade to the nine; club ruff; and a spade to the ace. This leaves dummy on lead with one trump and three diamonds remaining in each hand. A diamond is led to the ten (or the king if East plays the jack) and West is endplayed when he wins the trick. Any return gives declarer his contract.

Oh wait...

That's bridge.

I got nuthin'.

Actually, I followed it a bit while in the UK for a wedding. A test match is a good reason to skip work, drink all morning, break for lunch, then follow it up with drinking in the afternoon.

Doesn't matter. Pakistan always brings it and the US never stood a chance.
