Hmm, bizarre. I was just looking at the wild-card standings, and noticed the Arizona Diamondbacks Home/Road records. I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but it seems rather crazy that the team with the best road record in the wild card standings (Second best in the entire league) is tied for the most losses at home.

Padre/Astros/Braves fans should be in luck today. Word is that Robinson is sitting out five of the eight starting fielders in hopes of helping the slump. Schneider is out due to an injury... Apparently there is at least one person in the world that thinks sitting out Wilkerson, Vidro, Castilla (Who hit a HR last night) and Wilson in favor of such huge names as Cepicky, Carroll, Baerga and Blanco, all while leaving Guzman in, would be an improvement. And that man just happens to be the manager of the team.

And against Jake Peavy too? Imagine being a reserve, and the one time you do play, they throw you out against an all-star pitcher. That's just mean...

right now, they have lost their last 13 consecutive 1 run games

It's really amazing what the Braves have done this year. All those injuries and veterans that didn't work out (Mondesi and Jordan) led to a ton of rookies playing and now they have a 5.5 game lead in a division with every team above .500 and have the 3rd best record in baseball.

What looked like a lost season a couple months ago, now looks like a 14th straight division title and great prospects for continuing the run for years given the success of all the rookies.

Agreed.

Now if they only start having better success come playoffs time, they'll be all set.

I guess the Sox don't find avoiding a sweep in Minn very necessary. This line-up sucks:

T. Graffanino 2b
E. Renteria ss
D. Ortiz dh
M. Ramirez lf
K. Millar rf
R. Petagine 1b
D. Mirabelli c
A. Cora 3b
G. Kapler cf

Shannon Stewart with the "what the hell, I thought there were two outs when I caught that fly ball" blunder. Tosses the ball into the stands with runners on 1st & 2nd. Runner from 2nd scored.

Jesus fucking christ, yet another air-mail throw from an infielder by the Red Sox. Taylor made 5-4-3 ball this time that the third baseman just airmailed into right field trying to get the ball to 2nd. If I recall, that's 4-5 overthrows to a base in this series.

That's what happens when you decide to give Alex Cora his second career start at 3B.

By the way, don't tell Francona that Graffinino has actually put in quite a bit of 3B time in his career. Of course, this is the guy that lets reserve OFs sit while sticking a first baseman in right.

Nice. Graf strikes out looking on 3-2 on one of the most obvious make-up strike calls in history, steps across the plate to take his base (because it was a fuckin' ball), and the runner stealing second is called out due to Graf's interference. I hate watching this shit.

I guess Ramon Ortiz must fear Juan Pierre, check out this game log:

Marlins 1st:

Juan Pierre: Strike looking, Ball, Ball, Pierre reached on bunt single to shortstop.
Luis Castillo: Pickoff attempt, Pierre to third on Ortiz's throwing error

Marlins 3rd:

Dontrelle Willis: Ball, Foul, Strike looking, Ball, Willis singled to center.
Juan Pierre: Ball, Pierre reached on fielder's choice to first, Willis out at second.
Luis Castillo: Pierre to second on Ortiz's throwing error,

Marlins 5th:
Juan Pierre: Ball, Strike looking, Pierre singled to right.
Luis Castillo: Ball, Pickoff attempt to first, Pierre to third on Ortiz's throwing error,

So, three straight at bats Pierre reaches, only for Ortiz to throw the ball away on a pick-off attempt, costing the Reds 5 bases in the process. Mazingly Pierre reached in the 7th, but Ortiz managed to NOT throw the ball away.

Things may be different if they only did these types of things when leading 11-4 in the 8th.

Matsui almost pulled a "Stewart" in the 8th inning. Thankfully, he didn't throw the ball into the stands and realized his mistake and threw the ball to A-Rod to get Gregg Zaun out at third [all the people yelling at him in English helped, i'm sure].
