well, the guy seemed to be doing an ok job, and hasn't really been given a lot of time, not that I have paid much attention.

The O's win pct over the last 37 games is .243. Now that merits a 'wow.'

Plus, a nice abrupt manager firing can help deflect unwanted attention in other areas. [cough!]Steriods.[/cough!]

Besides, there were many the Orioles weren't fooling this year. . .

My guess is that they were going to fire him on Monday, but they had other stuff to deal with.

Not sure what to think about this. They certainly were not as good as their start indicated, but they weren't as bad as that stretch would indicate either.

True, but remember he was on the hot seat at the start of the season. Management expected a better than .500 finish. They are under .500 now and given the way things were going, I don't think there was much hope of them finishing above .500.

The point is that this firing should be no more than a very mild surprise. I completely expected it.

You are right. I'm guessing if they would have started around .500 the first few months of the year he would have been out of a job long before this.

Gosh, I hope not. As a White Sox fan, Dusty's consistent, incoherent blatherings are hilarious. And I actually pity the critcal Cubs fans and professional Cubs players that Dusty tries to undermine so often.

Firing Mazzilli definitely doesn't erase the fact that they have single A pitching on that team.
